About Maple Blade

Explore a haunted forest and rescue the neighbor's cat! Maple Blade is a short grid-based exploration game where you chop through the woods, fight off restless spirits, solve little puzzles, and help the townsfolk. Your sword can cut through nearly anything, including the tombstones of the dead... so be careful, or you'll end up getting  𝖈 𝖚 𝖗 𝖘 𝖊 𝖉 . . .
 • Cut your own path through the trees
 • Time only advances when you move, so even if combat gets hectic, you have plenty of time to chill and plan your next move
 • The autumn ambience and hand-drawn pixel art are cozy and relaxing :)
 • Featuring a meditative original soundtrack by Tim Myers (@timbyt_music)!
 • The forest layout changes nightly, so every playthrough is different
 • You can explore freely, chopping paths through the trees, hopping across lily pads, stopping (or starting) forest fires, chunking pumpkins, and hunting for treasure
 • Between levels, you can hang out at the cozy Visitor Center, chatting with wise locals and clueless tourists. There's gift shops where you can buy useful items, magical charms, keychains, palette filters, and hats for the cat! The hats don't do anything, they're just cute :)
 • There's a short, spooky story-- solve the haunted mysteries of the Sage Grounds, purify the spirits of the dead, and keep the tourists happy. It's all in a day's work for Maple Montressor!
 • This game was made as a passion project, without the use of generative AI. There's no ads, in-app purchases, loot boxes, or bloat
 • It's a pure little mix of chunky pixel art and modern game design-- a roguelite where you can cut your own paths through the "dungeon walls", complete missions in any order, use items to customize your risk-vs-reward, and relax in a serene autumn world, even in the midst of combat. I hope you dig it :)
Now where did that cat run off to...?

✦ AI summary

Players praise Maple Blade for its charming, chill atmosphere with satisfying combat mechanics, witty writing, and a relaxing soundtrack that evokes nostalgic feelings despite being its own thing. The main complaints center around limited customization options in challenge mode and one player's disappointment that romance with the final boss isn't an option, though most players seem content with what the game offers.

I'm not usually a fan of roguelite mechanics but I felt like this was a brilliant example of how they can work. It has beautiful pixel art, fun & unique challenges and cool boss fight mechanics, I just wish the game was longer.

So after 2 hours of playing around, i managed to beat the game. The music and sound effects are really solid. The artstyle really looked like the artist did their absolute best to get a cohesive flow, absolutely nailed it. The gameplayloop was really fun and hooked me quite well. The story was solid, and makes me hope that a sequel will be developed, realy looking forward to a continuation. Money was basically a suggestion at best though, very easy to come by and only really used for a easier start and some fun cosmetics. The difficulty of general play was quite nicely paced, if only a certain gamebreaking exploit would have not allowed me to play without ever being in danger. You can ask for hints from your sister for tasks you do not understand, but if you rack your brain a bit you should be able to find it out yourself, no wiki needed.
The final fight was really enjoyable, really hit the perfect spot in difficulty.
All with all it felt like a very fun, short, enjoyable experience definetely worth checking out. 8.5 / 10

Immediately very charming. Ambiance is good, gameplay loop is simple yet engaging, and it maintains a good sense of humor.

Love this game! As someone who plays primarily cozy games (think Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley) Maple Blade really scratches that itch. The storyline and progression of the game is fun and engaging. There were a bunch of different puzzles throughout the levels, and I had to think strategically about how to do things most efficiently. Plus, I also really like the cute characters! Big fan of Tuna the cat. It's clear that a lot of thought went into the user experience. Definitely recommend!

One of the best indie games I have played in the last 5 years easily. So much sauce and ambiance, ten outta mf TEN

it's a little janky and took some figuring out (which roguelikes/roguelites should) but the cozy autumnal vibe is there, I like the music, and it seems like there's a fair amount more for me to discover!
