after playing the skin stapler this one definitely needs to be revisited because this story was very meh
There's something deliciously ironic about a horror game set inside a movie theater — a place we may go specifically to be scared on purpose — and Massacre at the Mirage leans all the way into that irony. The atmosphere nails it. Walking through the lobby, the walls are lined with vintage style arcade games and classic horror movie posters, the kind of loving detail that tells you the devs actually get the genre instead of just borrowing its aesthetic. It's the little touch that turns a generic "theater map" into a set that feels lived-in and specifically horror-coded. The music is doing serious heavy lifting. It's fantastic — moody, well-placed, and clearly composed with intention rather than just looping ambient dread in the background. The multi-POV structure is the standout mechanic. The game shifts perspective across several different characters, all tied to one another in some way, and it's handled with real care. A lot of games use POV switches as a gimmick that fractures the pacing — here, it does the opposite. Each shift builds on the last, deepening both the central storyline and the web of connections between characters rather than resetting your investment every time…
