Carnival Massacre

Really enjoyed this game. cant wait to try to devs next game. Game ran flawlessly on my PC, Steam Deck Oled and even the AYN Thor using game native.

The Good: - Retro PSX style graphics (if you're into that sort of thing) - It only costs $5? The Bugs: - Character costume changing multiple times throughout the playthrough and in cutscenes for no reason - Auto-Aim toggling on and off randomly - Enemies can walk through walls separated by load screens - Enemies can attack you during cutscenes and kill you (I lost an entire S rank run due to this) The Bad: - All enemies, especially the final boss suffered a lobotomy prior to release - UI is absolutely garish and even painful to look at - Map lacks player location and most other QoL rendering it functionally useless - The amount of fiddling around just to put items in and out of storage is just tedious - Quite possibly the worst run animation in recent memory, both in terms of the terrible animation and the absurdly slow run speed - Tank controls force the character to turn agonizingly slow when running, which can be an enormous issue in certain boss fights - Modern controls (analog stick) do not cooperate with the camera the way you would expect in a game like this making them feel less viable than tank controls in the majority of exploration - Unable to skip cutscenes - Some …

This is a good classic survival horror with probably the best use of a carnival atmosphere I've seen in a game. The gameplay isn't revolutionary but it's good. There were a couple of decent scares. The aesthetics are pretty good. There were some minor bugs like how I accidentally was able to duplicate the security keycard, but nothing game breaking. It's a little short but there's zero wasted time and it's worth the price. Overall, it's a solid game.

cool for a short first project from a developer! there's a lot of cool ideas and style going on here that i think just need to be cultivated with time. the ambience is there, the design is there, and the puzzles are there. set design and level design alike are pretty great as well. the music, even if it sometimes didn't fit, was always a pleasure, giving its homages to akira yamaoka. boss fights were kind of so-so. as others have said, the roaming enemies themselves didn't quite feel like they mattered or that the had any sort of real theme tie-in. the game also was definitely on the easier side, which can be disappointing for long-time survival horror fans that this game is made for. on controller, some of the UI (especially in menus) was pretty unintuitive. the final boss especially was very anticlimactic in gameplay but also in story feel. it doesn't feel "satisfying" to kill it. overall, i really like what foundations are here, and i really wish the developer luck in the next project! i'm excited to see where it could go from here.

While its a short (roughly 2 hours to complete) and a bit janky in some places (for example an iron maiden enemy clipping into the boss fight arena) its an enjoyable horror game made by a single person, which wears its influences on its sleeve.

It was good, 7/10. Nothing too crazy but it reminded me of Alisa & Silent Hill :)
