Matt Murphy: The case of the stone guest

Classic point and click adventure that might be hard to play due to bad English translation. It does not begin in an original way. You play the role of a private detective searching for a lost dog. The case is not extremely fascinating, but as usual, it leads to a much larger mystery. First thing you’ll need to do is change the language to English and restart the game. This is hidden in the settings, but you shouldn’t have issues finding it. It’s a bit of a hassle because you’ll have to do this every time and depending on whether you start the game from desktop or Steam client. Another thing you’ll have to do each time is skip through the intro and load the game manually. The game aims for a classic experience. This means there are no magical buttons to reveal available hotspots, hints, or a dynamic mouse cursor that changes based on the hotspot. Fortunately, the name of the hotspot remains visible at the bottom of the screen as you move the mouse across it. Every hotspot provides three interactions: examine, use/pick up, and talk. First, an edit: After an update, the game now launches and runs in English, with an English start menu. Most of the incorrectly translated words have been corrected too. This is an old-school Point & Click adventure game with inventory based puzzles. There is no voice acting, but the interface is at least a somewhat newer and simpler 3 verb system. Movement between locations is done with a car and a map. The graphics are somewhat old-school too. They look crude in the cover art, but the game looked decent enough (and plays well) on the Steam Deck. The game was made in Spanish [strike]and getting it to run in English is a bit fiddly (there's a Steam guide). Once running, some of the words are translated wrong too[/strike], but nothing bad enough to break the gameplay. Once I got past all that, I enjoyed playing this old-school game. It's short (my time reflects more than one playthrough) but worthwhile.

It is a forgetable PnC. Around 1 hour long, 1,5 if you're stuck. You play as a private detective who tries to find his partner. There are some nonsensical puzzles, and no, or at least very few, humorous moments and no voice acting. Also, the game starts in Spanish, so you need to find the option menu, set it to English, and restart the game to find out that the translation is lazy and the sound is way too loud without the option to turn it down. Also, no starting menu, so if you want to load your game, you start a new game first, then load. It is just sloppy game design. Edit: thumbs up because the dev cares.
