Mega Serval

Simply amazing for a fangame. I have never played a Megaman game before, but I know a good platformer when I play one. Precise controls, very pretty pixel art, Kemono Friends (sugoi), cool level design which is on the hard end of the spectrum. And all of this for a fair price of free. HOWEVER The game is a bit too hard. The first 8 levels, where you save friends - are fun and difficult on the unchanged difficulty. The hard aspects can be gimmicky, a bit too unfair and frustrating but ultimately it was a fun time to get through an especially difficult checkpoint. All the bosses are more or less fair on the sidenote (except the ones I will talk about next) Well this sentiment changed for me for the last 4 levels which follow a different roue. Because they are, on a normal difficulty - simply sadistic. Sparse checkpoints, worst enemies from the game in insane amounts, and tight jumps which insta-kill you usually and the 3 last bosses (including a mandatory boss rush) are way too cracked. I would never play this game multiple times for fun and enjoy it so much I played it for hours on end just because I was having a good time

Cute little Mega Man clone, short and sweet. Didn't realize there were difficulty settings and a maid mode toggle until after I beat the game but it was fine on the defaults anyway. Not sure I fully understood the plot but I liked the various references to other games. Had some pretty tight (as in good) platforming sections, and the bosses seemed well-done too. My only complaint is it feels like they die too quickly to force you to really learn their patterns. Especially if you have their weaknesses, in which case they just get shredded comically, you can kinda just brute force your way through bosses a lot of the time without having to really sit down and focus, which I think is a bit of a shame, but it's a minor thing.

Aside from the crazy difficulty spike at the end that made me turn on invincibility mode for the last two levels, this was a lot of fun. The game's hard, but the checkpoints are fair (aside from the level with the eight chained boss fights), which kept it from ever being frustrating. Even the crazy hard level wasn't frustrating, since it was so impossibly hard that I only ended up confused about how I could ever beat it. My only real complaint is that, unless I missed it, the game never tells you that bosses have weaknesses to certain types of attacks. I didn't find out about that until I checked online to find out how it was possible to get past the part where you have to beat the first eight bosses again, only consecutively this time and without dying. It's not like knowing how boss fights work would have been enough for me to beat eight in a row, but it was still annoying that the game never told me how to properly play it.

This game was (sort of) a fun revisit. I just replayed the NES Mega Man games, so it was fun to compare Mega Serval to those. I say "sort of" because I changed some difficulty modifiers, resulting in a much more difficult playthrough. I should say upfront that I quite like this game. It's a Mega Man-like based on Kemono Friends. I think this game does a great job using characters, items, and locations from that series. The story is simple, charming, and true to the source material. The game's visuals are nice, and the music is pretty great. I think any Kemono Friends fan will have a good time with this. (if they don't find the game too hard, at least) Aaaanyway. If I'm not mistaken, the default settings include infinite lives and spikes only do damage. I changed it so I had 3 lives per stage and spikes were instant death. This made the game more closely resemble the Mega Man games I just finished playing. Though the lives thing isn't perfect? There's no way to earn extra lives so that's different. This game's version of the Wily stages also differs in that you don't have to worry about weapon energy across multiple levels.
