About Metonymy

A combination of Dante’s Inferno, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Fight Club, Metonymy follows Colin as he travels through the indoctrinated utopia of Sagacity on a quest to the vile and viscus center of the world known only as The Blood. He is joined by a few companions he meets along the way and with their help fights the oppressive Theocratic Choir and the insane and depraved Disease in an effort to reclaim his life before it’s too late.

Key Game Features
  • Cinematic Adventure: Players will experience a unique and engaging story that takes advantage of the foundations of interactive entertainment and film in order to bring its narrative and world to life unlike other games in its genre.
  • Interactive World: Players will be able to explore set locations and unravel the mysteries of Sagacity via delving into the dark cracks of its environments or talking to its inhabitants. The player will be rewarded with a clearer understanding of the overarching narrative and its unique characters.
  • Multiple Perspectives: While the story centers around Colin, players will be given unique insight into other inhabitants of the world of sagacity. Giving the players control of different protagonist serves to enrich the overall narrative of Metonymy and allows for a deeper understanding of the world and events that take place within it.
  • Rhythm Game Combat: The player will engage in combat in a sort of hybrid of action and rhythm games that lives seamlessly in the world of Metonymy. While combat will be limited to specific narrative beats, each time the player must fight the scene will be unique and choreographed to specific music that progresses the narrative.
  • Unique Visual Design: With Artistic influences form Harry Clarke, Goichi Suda, Zdzislaw Beksinski and Modernist Gothic Architecture, Metonymy aims to have a visual style all its own.

Metonymy successfully delivers a highly stylized, dark adventure fix by blending raw point-and-click progression layouts with an ultra-surreal dystopian narrative focused on theological overtones and limbo exploration. While the unique low-poly geometry and striking art direction initially promise a deeply atmospheric sci-fi routine, spending exactly 35 minutes inside the client reveals that the conceptual framework struggles to provide meaningful gameplay engagement. The structural core drops players into a minimalist environment where progression triggers feel overly vague, tasking users with reading disjointed environmental logs rather than interacting with a polished gameplay loop.On the technical side, a deep dive into community feedback indicates a heavily polarized user reception due to severe structural limitations. While enthusiasts heavily praise the imaginative character designs and striking angular visual setups, the wider community log notes a critical lack of gameplay direction that leaves players wandering without coherent objectives. It operates as an uncompromising, low-budget indie prototype that values abstract storytelling over intuitive mechanical depth. While …

"Metonymy" is a weird tech demo of a game, more "art" than anything else, from the low poly chunky "art" to the limited scope and limited interest. At least the assets look original rather than flipped stock assets, that's a plus. What do you do in the game? You don't do much... there's cutscenes, a bit of walking around, and a bossfight straight out of Dance Dance Revolution... and none of it works particularly well. Games can be art, but most "artists" don't understand that art is not "just be creative", the best art is, and always has been a blend of vision, creativity, and, yes, skill and craftsmanship. The Mona Lisa would not be hanging in the Louvre today if she was drawn in crayon on butcher paper. The graphics aren't great... that will understandably be a turn off for a lot of gamers, and it's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual medium, and if developers want to succeed, they must understand that it's not an area for compromise. You deserve better than compromises. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game pe…

One of the most interesting and cinematic pieces of art I've experienced in a long time. The voice acting can be kind of hit or miss sometimes but overall its really good. I especially enjoyed the art direction. The animation is kind of clunky sometimes but the character models and environmental design were extremely provocative and engaging. I especially enjoyed the character design, Enoch looks so cool. There are parts of the game that are somewhat slow because you're just walking and waiting for the characters to start talking, especially the first gameplay segment. The biggest drawback for me is the lack of any significant interactivity with the game. I believe it is stated somewhere that this game is a demo, and that makes a lot of sense considering how this game's story just plops you in the center of it. Despite that, the game does a fine enough job at bringing you up to speed, telling us who the good guys and bad guys are, and giving us little hints at the broader story going on here. I was very disappointing at the fact that the "final boss" is just a cutscene. The game advertises its rhythm game combat but there's no actual gameplay, even if it looks like there is- it…
