I have yet to figure out what MIDNIGHT is actually about, but it does bring to mind good pixel-based survival horror classics, like Misao and Mad Father, particularly in terms of gameplay: extremely basic controls, item collection for progress and no combat mechanics. It is not a hefty game - barely one hour of duration with full completion - and it may be too cryptic for its own good, but for its current price, it is more than enough.5 found this helpful
Adapted from my gaming blog
it’s a very simple game, but great for quenching an evening horror fix.
MIDNIGHT Remastered is a short indie horror game that was released on Steam May 7, 2019. It is a remaster of the original MIDNIGHT web game. I tried out the original to see the differences, but they are very sparse. This Remaster basically makes the player’s view more obstructed with darkness, gives more freedom of movement (like diagonal walking) and has a bit better sound design. There are also extra modes and controller support that have been added. Based on the ritual, the “Midnight Game” you play as a girl in a creepy mansion trying to collect 7 letters (*cough* slender anyone?) to “absolve her sins.” Not much is revealed about her, but you may develop suspicions along the way. For story-wise, there are notes to find around and blood-writing on the walls sometimes, but I honestly couldn’t piece together a s…4 found this helpful
Fun, cryptic little game
Well done to the creator! An already perfect game became ever more perfect~. It captures perfectly the horror essence and it's also based on the supernatural and forbidden ritual "The Midnight Man" (I absolutely LOVE content inspired by dangerous rituals and games you should never try!) I had played this game years ago when I found it for free (on itch.io I think?) and I was astonished on how amazing, well made game it is! For the way it is made (without saving) the playthrough length is well suited, around 15'-30' so it doesn't lose it's edge. The Remastered version changes consist only of the additional extra playthroughs and some new graphics which add a more overall amazing experience to the original.
i like how the game starts, its really spooky and the gameplay is quiet really fun and yeah i still don't understand the story, what a rotten tomato. even the achievements won't unlock after i was completing a game so i use SAM and finally my achievements are unlocked. good game.
Fun little indie pixel horror based loosely off of the 'Midnight Man' urban legend/game. When you start, your character has already completed the ritual which bummed me out because I like going through the candle lighting and knocking and stuff. No worries though! My biggest challenge when beating this game was remembering where things were. The object is to collect seven envelopes that are marked with one of the deadly sins from the bible. Luckily they aren't randomly placed so it's just a matter of finding them all and not running out of matches before you can escape. Be careful while exploring! A little ghost sometimes shows up to blow out your candle and waste your matches. Try to run away when you see it. When you beat the game it unlocks two new game modes. I still have to try them, but I'm sure I'll enjoy them. Did I get $0.99 worth of fun out of this? Absolutely. Thanks! :)
