Monster Bash HD, developed by Emberheart Games and published by Apogee Entertainment, is a faithful remaster of a classic early ’90s platformer that aims to preserve its original identity while making it more approachable for modern audiences. Rather than reinventing the experience, it focuses on updating visuals and smoothing out some of the rougher edges, resulting in a game that feels both nostalgic and, at times, unmistakably dated. The premise is simple and charming in a distinctly retro way. Players control Johnny Dash, a young boy armed with a slingshot, who ventures into a monster-filled world to rescue his kidnapped dog and other captured animals. Each level revolves around locating and freeing all the caged pets before reaching the exit, creating a clear objective that combines exploration with progression. This structure gives the game a consistent sense of purpose, encouraging players to thoroughly search each stage rather than simply rushing to the end. Gameplay is built around classic side-scrolling platforming combined with light combat. Players jump across hazards, avoid enemies, and use the slingshot to clear obstacles or defeat threats. The controls are simple a…

This an actual remaster, not just high res textures running in dosbox. Controller support works perfectly. Vibes are on point. This is a love letter. To the dev who did this? Good job. I see you.

im just going to make this short this game is a good and sometimes difficult platformer that feels very unique and there isnt much like it. pros: more approachable then the original with difficulty, you can use the pet compass outside the menu, some levels have pretty good design, a level editor that isnt hard to understand, and isnt too far from the original cons: sometimes the hints never going away can be a tad annoying on some levels when its your first time playing them kinda would like a setting to remove that, i remember there are 2 levels that i really didnt like and a lot of the later levels are a hit or miss, final boss seemed kinda underwhelming because how the other 2 bosses moved while the last just kinda sits there, but most of my cons are a bit of nitpicks more then anything really wrong with the game

It is as I remember it, and better. A fun and charming little platformer. Love those spooky jams.

I played this game as shareware as a child in the 90s, but only did the first episode. I always wondered what the other two episodes were though. This is almost the same game as the previous one, but with graphics upgrades and an editing tool you can use to make new levels. I think I remember the original had a save button too, but this one doesn't have it - instead you can choose which level you want to play after you have reached it the first time in the story.
