Moventure

While I really like the game itself, I can't recommend it to most people, at least not in its current state. At one hand I really like how it looks and its comedic atmosphere, which is similar to what was presented in the Reventure, but on the other I have a really big issue with the game controls and lack of any in-game log, guide or at least mention about possible movement options. Some people might say that it's a skill issue and that it just takes time and some practice to learn all of them, but I can't agree on that. Sometimes you will discover some new move by accident, but trying to learn how to use it consistently or even reproduce it once is a tedious process. Sometimes you might have to be in a specific spot or move in a specific way, sometimes you might have to be in a specific state, sometimes it might be a specific button combination or even all of these things combined at the same time. It is annoying to try to reproduce a move that you once did, because you are not sure what you did exactly and why it happened. I can't count how many times I tried to do multiple wall jump move in a row (which I had to go through half a level first just to try), only to bang my head …

Frustation as a gameplay mechanic only works when when the player can recognize that the player is the one at fault. Frustration as a mechanic in this game is when dealing with the jank controls and an illogical wall jumping mechanic.

As someone who really liked Reventure i was excited about this announcement, the game looked fun, with a solid base, and i did trust their humour would be able to shine thru but unfortunately, none of this really came true while trying the game You might notice i have a small amount of hours on the game, and that is because it genuinely plays worse than rage games, the controls are all bound to the same buttons, and its incredibly easy to do something you dont want to. For a game whose whole gimmick is moving around in different ways, you have terrible wall jumps, the annoying super jump, and just voerall, the movement never feels like you are ding what you WANT to do TLDR: while the art and humour still somewhat present, the god awuful controls, bad movement mechanics hold back a game that should have been all about chaining togheter different move techs, there is fun to be had here, but every time you try and paly it feels like you are fighting against the controls

I enjoyed the first game (Reventure) but this one is so much clunky and just not fun to play. Main reason being the hard to understand controls and complete randomness of what happens when you try to perform some of the combos, you might suceed once but you might die in the next attempt by doing the exact same thing. Also there´s no tutorial, no explanations of anything... And overall the gameplay loop is not enjoyable, it's just frustrating. I completed the main game but there's no way I will redownload it again to collect all the treasures or doing the post game content.

You can one-shot the final boss with a pink piece of 💩.

It captures the most annoying controls from an NES era game. Unfortunately, those controls suck. I would recommend this to anyone who likes a challenge fighting the controls or wants to remember the worst controls from the NES. The puzzles and game is fun, just handicapped by the controls
