RPG Maker strikes again! 【NekoGakuen】《MatthiolaReverieVerse:LostIsland》 is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. And wow... is that really the title of a game, or a twelve year old's Xbox gamer tag? Some professionalism wouldn't go astray, but then again we have this trashware non-game slapped together with a children's construction set instead of a professionally made game by someone who could get a job as a game developer, so expectations probably should be lower than a coal mine. The developer couldn't work out how to use RPG Maker to make an asset flipped JRPG (the only thing it can do, and it's terrible at it). So, instead, we have this really creepy e-book/choose your own adventure about the developers imaginary girlfriend/waifu. I just threw up in my mouth a little. The translation is too horrendous to get anything meaningful out of it. This really hinders it because games like these rely heavily on the story. The beginning messages were also hollow and illogical.

What can i say about this game? Some people were saying that the translation was not that good but for me the only problem was when the MC was talking with her ex-classmate it appear some red text in Chinese and i am curious of what that text would mean and if it had some impact on the history lol. What i feel about the characters: The characters are not named thus making me care less about them. Probably if they were named the player could had have a better connection with them? Even tho I got sad with the bad ending it didn't affect me that much because for me they were like just characters :/ I think this type of games are better when 'we' the player have a deeper connection with the MC and the other NPC's, thats why knowing theirs names for me is very important!! Or maybe the devs thought it was better for us not knowing their names? To make us feel as being a bystander in the situation the girl is. About the MC: She is very relatable and i like the way she was written. In the story she is written as someone that doesn't care about many thing anymore. Even when she was happy, it was just a shell, she thought if she appears as a happy person she would had more friends and this…

The game is well made. One thing I love about it is the art style, it reminds me of those old rpgs from the 2000s. With the textures not being exactly well polished, and the character models being almost a different style, some people might think this is a weakness. But I think it gives the game a unique appeal. The story is good, the translations need a bit of work, I can tell it was just copied pasted into google translate. At some times I didn't understand what the characters were saying, for example, the bully scene. I feel like the guy needed more fleshing out, more motivation. Rather than being just a guy who wanted to help the protagonist. But overall, for a free game this was a good experience, 7/10.
