New Day: Cataclysm

"New Day: Cataclysm" is one of literally thousands of student projects infesting Steam. While student projects tend to be better quality than most "amateur" made games, we must still question what value such projects have for gamers. As with all student projects, this isn't really a fully fleshed out game, it's just the result of an academic exercise, and as such it has much more limited value as a game than a professionally developed game would have. Educational institutions should not be using Steam as a dumping ground for homework assignments (especially if the students didn't even pass the course). Sure, it helps their marketing and helps the students feel good about themselves, but this is another case of a business putting themselves before the needs of gamers. This time it looks like the students learned how to make Unity asset flips. This is a laughably poor quality point and click shooter that's outperformed by some mobile apps. Basically you control and archer and tap on your iPhone screen to shoot arrows at Unity Asset Store zombies. Игра New Day: Cataclysm предлагает классический геймплей в духе Diablo II. Жёсткая боевая система, глубокая прокачка и атмосфера мрачного фэнтези — её главные козыри. Однако технические шероховатости и не всегда щедрый лутадраб несколько портят впечатление. Стоит попробовать, если скучаете по старой школе.

Great time killer in a fun and enjoyable way :)

Mildly recommended. For a free student project, this is a neat little game. The graphics and animations are not too bad, same for the music. The shooting feels good and the overall concept works pretty well. I like that you have the scavenging and base upgrades, definitely gives a nice extra to prep for the night time raids. It's a solid foundation for something much better, but its too bare bones to keep my interest. If you're looking for a basic little base defense game, then this one is worth checking out.

Quaint little zombie defense game. Made in Unity as a 3d game. Reminds me of the types of games you could play on sites like Kongregate or Newgrounds. Simplistic and streamlined gameplay that offers just enough decision making too keep it interesting. Only did one playthrough, overwhelmed around day 60 or so. Feel like if I made some different decisions I could go a lot further. That's it for the review, now for critique: 1.) Some of the new areas did not seem to pay out like they should at all. One of the areas I kept foolishly returning to expecting it to pay out better than an area that I had previously unlocked. If it was intentionally meant to be worse, but as the player I would like to see an indication of how much resources I should expect to get. Personally I would like to know the exact calculation, but for simplicity at least ball park what I'll get. 2.) It was really difficult to keep my survivors, well, surviving. I think I maxed out around 5, and I had spots for 7. They got whittled down just two by the end of my run.
