Ominous Tales: The Forsaken Isle

Whilst researching your family history, you have a dream about a beautiful ancestor called Lady Annabel, who asks you to save her from eternal torment. Ominous Tales The Forsaken Isle is developed by Urchin Games for HH-Games. The Forsaken Isle is located just off the coast of England and is said to be the home of ghosts, necromancers and dangerous man eating wolves. Vincent Faulkner, who drinks wolf's blood to give himself powers, established his trading empire on the island and is attempting to bring Lady Annabel back to life. There are 4 modes of play, including Custom. There are 3 different collectables to find throughout the game - spirits, letters of a journal, and claw marks. A fast travel map is available which indicates actions available and if collectables have not been found. Hidden object areas are mostly written items, however there are a few silhouettes. The hidden object areas can be skipped, just like puzzles. Extras include wallpapers, concept art, written stories about the characters and downloadable music. Ominous Tales: The Forsaken Isle is a Hidden Object puzzle game, the type you normally see on mobile app stores or even as browser apps. There's literally hundreds of these on Steam, mostly published by Artifex Mundi, many of them free on mobile app stores, but this one will cost you money on Steam. There's a 19th century magical/mystery/horror theme to the game, but this is a just a veneer over a tired and overdone set of hidden object minigames and Adobe Flash tier puzzles, wrapped together with a bunch of static screens that you "move" through by tapping your finger on your iPhone screen. While these kinds of games are popular amongst casual gamers, it's difficult to argue this is a great value proposition as a PC game, especially considering the price of this compared to the hundreds of free HOGs on the mobile app stores. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. Game has its low points; selecting items in a point click area has been difficult due to poor lighting and no magnification. Some items are so minute that it is hard to see it, even on a blown up screen. The part which annoys me the most is the "SKIP" button is located at the top of the screen. I tried to avoid it but accidentally hit it once while navigating [very annoying!]. Good story but the clues are not always easily achieved. This story took my attention fully! If I play it again I'll try to remember to take screen shots.

Fantastically Awful. I loved every second of this game

This game is just not notable in any way among the field of HOGs and I would not recommend seeking it out. There's nothing that I can single out as particularly good in it, but nor is anything particularly bad. It's just supremely average and shorter than most.
