Oonga Boonga

Okay-ish tower defense game. It's fun for half an hour, then the music starts to get ultra annoying. Seems like an okay kid's game.

Rather than moving smoothly you get to choose where to teleport your character to on-screen. In principle this is an interesting idea but in practice it's a bit dull. At least in part because the upgrades are kind of interchangeable & not very interesting. I was unable to finish the first level but I suspect that's because I wasn't spamming movement enough. I did give it a few more tries but it just never got that much more interesting, Strategically. Or I missed something important. Works with touch screens and has a pleasant enough soundtrack.

Very compact vs-like with a unique spin on positioning. It's engaging enough and definitely worth it for the price.

A fun tower defense twist on the Vampire Survivors formula. 👍 Upgrading your heroes and gradually watching attacks and enemies fill up the screen is as satisfying as ever. The novelty comes from having to manage multiple characters and their positioning to get through the enemy waves. Time pauses when you're repositioning but it gets quite hectic as you constantly try to avoid damage. Having to also occasionally pull a slot machine to occasionally cash in the coins you get feels almost too much, but I'm also old and can see myself getting used to it after more time. Overall some good fun in short bursts for the price of less than half a cup of coffee and I'm curious to see the remaining classes.

A minimalistic arena game with just enough depth to keep you hooked. Oonga Boonga is a bad name for this game. I always must think of some stupid cave men - but it is a smarter game than that. Where in many of these arena games you run around, here we have static positions where the 3 heros can be moved to. There is a cooldown, but it's short enough to continually rotate the heros around the map. That's not riveting gameplay, but it keeps you engaged while you listen to your podcast in the background. Oonga Boongas one drawback is the small mouse cursor. You need to switch between gathering experience and moving your heros once the animals gang up on them. It's quite easy to lose sight of the tiny cursor between tons of effects and moving animals. Many other effects can be enabled/disabled/changed to your liking, which is appreciated. [i]Edit: The developer has added a cursor size setting![/i] The meta progress is balanced pretty well: Achievements give small bonuses that make it possible to try for harder difficulties but also incentivize trying new tactics or to make it harder on yourself.
