Pecaminosa

Pecaminosa does something rare: it hooks you from the very first second. The noir atmosphere is incredibly well-executed, and the art style is, quite simply, brutal. Every corner of the city drips with personality thanks to some of the most beautiful pixel art I’ve seen in a long time. The story has that perfect "hook" that keeps you glued to the screen, wanting to uncover more of this corrupt world. However, my experience on PC was cut short by game-breaking technical issues. The game becomes unstable at key moments: Crashes: Every time I tried to enter the pizzeria, the game would crash and close completely. Freezes: In the casino, after winning a few hands of Texas Hold’em, the game simply freezes and won't let you continue. It is incredibly frustrating that a game with such high potential and an immersive narrative is held back by these kinds of bugs. I’m left with a very bitter taste in my mouth; I would love to know how the story ends, but these errors have completely demotivated me from pushing forward. Verdict: Gorgeous and addictive, but technically broken on PC. It’s a real shame I won't be able to finish it.

After playing through Pecaminosa a few times I must say I have really enjoyed it, Cereal Games really made a great game straight out of the gate. The premise is intriguing, the characters and dialogue are all really entertaining, and the setting is absolutely incredible- full of fun pop culture references and some really endearing nods to the Azores where this game was made it was all in all a good time playing through even on my third go. if nothing else the music is spectacular and really sets the mood well- an easy 10/10. the minigames were a nice touch as well, good to see them get narrative significance as well. the game is not going to hold your hand and can be really difficult if you haven't stocked up on whiskey and bullets- but the boss fights are creative and interesting, even when really difficult at times. I think my only real critique is that there isn't really much of a hint on where certain levels open up (ie- random crack appears you need to shoot can be hard to find if you're not aware of it) and I can see it being the source of frustration for some players- so potentially giving a more obvious prompt in dialogue or interaction prompt might smooth over that fir…

I saw the horrible score and thought- this doesn't look that bad. It kinda is... It's functional, I guess- but I found myself bored with the narrative, the combat, and everything else. It's pretty bare bones, and the skeleton is barely holding together.

Pecaminosa is a retro-styled action RPG developed by Cereal Games and published by 2Awesome Studio that blends classic detective noir storytelling with arcade-like combat and exploration. I got this game seeing mixed reviews and really wanted to be able to change it over to positive, but the game is not that fun. The story is too fast to understand what's going on, the character's are forgettable, it feels like a walking simulator from place to place, and the worst offender is limited bullets! I don't mean like you can hold limited or needing ammo, I mean in a set story area there is only a limited number of bullets you can buy/get! And it's no such a large amount it wouldn't be an issue, it's like not very many bullets. Point is, I wanted it to be fun so bad but I was really not for several reasons.

Really fun. Good atmosphere, really, really good music, gameplay easy enough to figure out and it's a fair challenge, the story is very intriguing and hooks you up from early on. It's an easy yes!
