About Soul Detective
Troubles brewing in the land of the dead, the Soul Detective Agency is on the case.
Meet our Detective, truly a specter whose unable to rest his soul until evil is vanquished in this realm.
There are demons that managed to make their way into limbo, stopping pure souls from moving on into to the lower depths of the nine realms.
The Detective and his dear friend Magnus, who's enraptured in the detectives magnifying glass creating a truly ghoulish weapon that is capable of sending demons back to their fiery grave, are on the mission to assist. Help this duo fight the demons and find whose behind it all.
In this game you will fight through three realms, run into friendly spirits that will guide you on your way, and utilize the Detectives Spectral Powers including Telekinesis, Ranged Attack, and Possession. Dodge, Dash, Swipe and Attack enemies that flood the three levels and make your way to the bosses holding the area in order to progress further below Limbo. Student lead game learning the capabilities of game engines, and our ability in art code and design, hope you enjoy!

Damn. I wanted to like this game cause the art direction and music's pretty good. but the game literally doesn't want to be played with core mechanics not working consistently, the camera getting all jittery at random times, and combat is tedious, with hitboxes either not registering or sending everything flying all over the place. I got softlocked at the third level twice, once on a different save file. The first was when I defeated all the golems, but the first one, the Red golem, wouldn't be registered as dead, and the second time when enemies that you're supposed to possess just didn't appear. Another issue I ran into are the Telekinesis abilities not working. Sometimes pressing F didn't pick up or allow me to throw/drop unless I moved in a certain position, and at the start of my playthrough I accidentally discovered a glitch where I picked up two objects at the same time and couldn't drop both whatsoever. The only saving graces are the charming cutscenes, which I like the storyboard esque style of, the music is pretty solid, with the office theme being my favorite in the game, and the general art direction and style. Tip if you're going to play it: if the camera starts ♥…5 found this helpful
The game is terrible. Sound was muted when your first enter the game. Couldn't use the ESC button to do anything. Tab was not working either. The tutorial doesn't feel like a tutorial, and not by choice but had to do the tutorial twice. The whole time your just running around trying to figure things out on your own while doing the tutorial. Certain actions don't work. The little soul NPC's even ones with icons above their heads don't talk when prompted too. Feels like nobody play tested the game. Graphics are good. Monsters and the character move okay when viewed by themselves but not in combat. Combat is not good. Okay story the little you get. The concept isn't bad.4 found this helpful
Hello :-) I check this out over on my twitch today. I got stuck on the second level however I enjoyed my time with the game. I wanted to leave behind a review here for any potential gamers that were checking it out. The several different abilities are interesting. However the possesion ability which allows you to take over a monster seems and having a 3-5 second lifetime before you are forced back to your character makes it difficult to be "useful". It'd make more sense if it simply lasted until the possesed monster died in my opinion. It also I believe is was caused the second level to bug out. Feel free to watch gameplay and my review at the end here: https://youtu.be/j_Tc0L4FwgY3 found this helpful
Honestly the arts really good both 2d and 3d. I love the idea of the abilities being used as simple as it is, I like the detective's design. Why did I rate it poorly then? Because this games honestly a buggy mess that doesn't want to be played. I thought at first it was just an early build that's how broken it is. Abilities sometimes just don't work at all. Sometimes the camera will constantly shake and go all over the place if you attack/ Sometimes the player just can't move all together. Sometimes the enemies won't take damage at all or the player won't. Honestly it got bad enough to the point that I got stuck in the first area's 3rd gate (from after you use the possession ability in the tutorial) because I couldn't move. Full rating?? 3.8/10 amazing concept, art and ideas. Just really really reaalllyyy badly needs polished on the programming, honestly I feel really bad for rating it so low but I can't even play the game because of the bugs.1 found this helpful
