Unoptimized, pseudophilosophical kitsch. The only highlight was the recording of the man explaining his devotion in the back left of the church; that was actually compelling. He was right, by the way, while the woman was wrong—evolution isn't 100% proven. For a game this visually 'rough,' there should at least be basic video quality options for the user to adjust. Also, a question for the atheists: if you despise the idea of a 'magical God,' why do so many of you enjoy abstract games centered on magic, like Diablo or MMORPGs filled with spells and abilities?

Pelican Deep is a very short first person adventure that puts me in the role of a grade school student at a religious school where things start feeling wrong very quickly. I am late for school and hoping the nuns will be easy on me, but the normal school day slowly turns into something much more unsettling. The game is only designed to take around 20 to 30 minutes, so it does not waste much time getting into its strange atmosphere. I like that because it feels more like a short disturbing story that I can experience in one sitting rather than a horror game trying to stretch a small idea across several hours. The atmosphere is easily the strongest part for me. The religious setting gives the game an uncomfortable feeling before anything particularly strange even happens, and the surreal presentation makes the school grounds feel increasingly unnatural as I explore. I am not just walking around looking for jump scares either. The game has me doing schoolwork, following the nuns' instructions and looking into conversations and details that do not seem quite right. I like this slower approach because it makes the unsettling parts feel more connected to the story instead of just throwi…
