Planar Conquest

I was completely unfamiliair with this game, even though I enjoy this genre. I bought it for 1 euro/dollar and for that price it is a decent game. Unfortunately, there are still quite a few bugs, but despite that, I'm really enjoying it.

Become an all-powerful Sorcerer Lord and lead one of 8 different races to the ultimate victory. Explore multiple planes of existence, raid dungeons, and conquer cities. Expand your armies, cast mighty spells, and summon godly creatures to do your bidding. Fight the enemies in D20 OGL battles.

A clear spiritual descendant of Master of Magic — basically Civilization meets Heroes of Might & Magic. Planar Conquest has genuinely good mechanics. City management, spell systems and tactical battles are well designed and there’s a lot of strategic potential. On paper it’s a great idea and at times you can feel how fun the game wants to be. Unfortunately, the transition to 3D hurt it badly. Enemy turns take forever, the world map is hard to read, and the visuals and unit models feel stiff and unattractive. Instead of helping clarity, the graphics actively work against gameplay. It honestly feels like a game where the mechanics deserved a Heroes III-style presentation — the same systems in a cleaner, 2D readable style would probably make it far more enjoyable. Because of that, many players see it as a solid strategy buried under poor technical execution. + strong strategic mechanics + good spell and city systems + satisfying tactical battles + good price − very slow AI turns − unreadable map/UI − ugly and stiff 3D graphics
