My gambling addict friend said if I post a review on Potions & Emotions and it gets 350 likes and 150 Awards that he will buy me a case of beer and some vodka . So I'm just gonna leave this here.13 found this helpful
First time playing a visual novel, and this one did not disappoint! Overall story was fun and continually intriguing, and the characters each had unique personalities and interesting backstories. If it were a physical book it would be hard to put down! The artwork was also really well drawn and was consistently high-quality while having a good amount of charm and artistic character. Animations and movement effects were smooth and made it easy to follow who was talking at any given moment. With that in mind I do wish it could've been a little longer, as I definitely would've enjoyed more of this! At the same time I also understand the limited scope with a small team. Seemed almost like a cliffhanger though... can't wait for the sequel..? Also, in case anyone else runs into this: there was a bug on my first boot-up that caused the game to display story text while remaining on the title screen. I was able to quickly solve this by just shutting the game down and restarting the story. Overall, great visual novel, fairly polished and fun story!4 found this helpful
While I do credit the college students who created this game, it ultimately did not keep my attention. I found myself bored with the characters, the dialogue, and the overall story. The idea is very cool, but fails to unfold in an interesting way. This is my take on it, but I would encourage others to give it a shot and give their own opinions.1 found this helpful
"Potions & Emotions" isn't a game, it's a cringey non-game high school anime club dropout fan-fiction that's been dumped on Steam into the games section. As a visual novel, it doesn't have any gameplay. It's just a lot of clicking through bad, cringe dialogue that no real publisher would ever accept. When people can't get their work published in print, they pay the $100 fee to dump their fan-fiction here instead, where we have to put up with it when looking for things that are actual PC games. This badly written high school anime club dropout fan-fiction is all about the authors imaginary cartoon girlfriend, who is a fairy, and the author writes about how his girlfriend has a conscience. These fan-fiction writers sure have vivid imaginations about their imaginary girlfriends. Visual novels/e-books are the worst way to try read a book (and they're always written far worse than real books too). Imagine reading your favorite book, be that War and Peace or The Davinci Code (are you ok??), but you have to click the mouse for every single sentence that appears. You'd hate it. It's a garbage way to try read a book... and even if it wasn't, this still isn't a game. Now take that annoyi…
