Redline, originally released in 1999 and recently revived on Steam by Nightdive Studios, is one of those rare games that tried to fuse two genres in a way few titles dared to attempt at the time. Developed by Beyond Games and published by Accolade, the game drops players into a post-apocalyptic wasteland where survival hinges on both fast-moving vehicular combat and gritty on-foot firefights. The result is a hybrid experience that shifts between high-octane driving and first-person shooting, set against a world of domed cities, anarchic gangs, and lawless stretches of ruin. Its ambition makes it stand out even today, though it also exposes flaws that come with trying to bridge such different gameplay systems. The setting immediately creates a strong identity for the game. Taking place in a bleak future where humanity has retreated into fortified domes, the wastelands outside are ruled by gangs, cults, and mercenary groups all clawing for scraps of power. Players step into the role of a rookie aiming to climb the ranks by working for “The Company,” a faction promising protection and prestige. Missions see you moving from one hostile territory to another, engaging rival gangs, infil…1 found this helpful
Not the best story but has great soundtrack, fun multiplayer and good gameplay
Many time, car kick me from inside,to outside,i ask why car? And Car does again!?! 4\10 But , Yes, Reccomend only for Boomers, desperately looking for shooters to ESCAPE 2026! #boomboomboomsixfeetsoon
An absolute masterpiece of an underrated gem. This game is very innovative for 1999, with seamless transition between vehicle combat and on-foot traditional shooter gameplay. The gunplay is incredibly satisfying, the soundtrack can be repetitive but it slaps, and the voice acting is charmingly bad. Honestly this would be my favorite shooter of the 90s if it got a refresh with better sound mixing, ability to bind mouse wheel and mouse buttons, and maybe even widescreen support. Well worth the low asking price
Kind of like Shogo: MAD but not as enjoyable and even jankier. A big part of the game is driving a car that controls stiff so I recommend a mouse with sensitivity adjust button because that's how you control it. You'll be doing a lot of driving in circles and launching bombs from the side of your car, don't forget to set a key to free aim your main guns of the car for targets located higher and do quick 180 degree turns with the handbrake. Just don't engage the vehicles head-on because your car can only take a couple of hits and do the song and dance with mines and bombs. Sometimes the game keeps respawning new enemies after you've beaten the last respawned enemies and it gets kind of tiring. The map design indoors is odd, the movement on foot feels wonky and everything is just off. There are many guns and cars so this could've been a blast on multiplayer, but the singleplayer campaign doesn't cut it.
