Regeria Hope Episode 1

The story follows lawyer Regeria, who defends her client in court, who is accused of poisoning his wife. Moreover, her longtime rival from the Academy is also on the prosecution's side. Whether our heroine wins this case or not depends on her future career. The story is written with a generous dose of banter and humor.

This is a free Visual Novel about courtroom drama. You play as attorney Regeria Hope. This is her first case on her own, and it is a murder case. She is defending the accused murderer. For the most part, you just read the text on the screen, then click for the next text. On the right of the screen is a pop-out list of your case files. You can click on a piece of evidence in your files to present it. You always present a piece of evidence to prove somebody is lying, and never to prove they are telling the truth. Also on the right of your screen is a pop-out list of characters in the story. They are added as you meet them. You can click on them to read a sentence or two of info about them, but other than that there seems to be no purpose for that list. Speaking of useless lists... On the left of the screen is another pop-out list. This one mainly shows pointless comments from the judge about how hungry he is, and shows you pictures of food. At the beginning of the story, you get to pick 1 phrase ([i]out of 3[/i]) that Regeria will shout when she objects. Hearing her shout this phrase over and over quickly becomes quite annoying. Overall, the voice-acting is horrible. …

It's a very neat way to have an Ace Attorney fix without all the blood and the black magic/esoteric cr*p If only the series were not abandoned. I don't know if they were, but from the silence in year, it seems so.

Regeria Hope Episode 1 is a courtroom visual novel that clearly takes inspiration from games like Ace Attorney, but it has enough of its own ideas to make it more than just a cheap copy. I play as Regeria Hope, a lawyer who has to defend her clients in court while trying to work out what actually happened. The first case involves a husband whose wife has been poisoned during a wedding reception, and I have to question witnesses, prepare testimony and find contradictions before the time runs out. I like the basic setup because it gets straight into the mystery without wasting too much time. The courtroom sections are easily the strongest part for me. I have to pay attention to what witnesses are saying and decide when I have enough information to interrupt them. The witness preparation system is a nice change from simply presenting evidence over and over, because I can influence what a witness is willing to say. There is also the Fact Overload system, where I can connect facts together and use them against a witness. I like having these extra mechanics because they make the investigation feel slightly more active instead of just clicking through dialogue until the correct evidence …
