This blueberry is still peak.
At first I didnt like this game and I wanted to remove it from my library because I thought it would be just another generic and boring shooter. Thank God I kept playing. Rogue Trooper turned out to be a very fun shooter with likeable characters, enjoyable mechanics, an engaging story and gameplay, cinematic cutscenes, old but appealing visuals and much more. While its not the best shooter I still really liked it and would recommend it to anyone.
I expected Rogue Trooper to be a bit of a brainless romp, but no, that's one of the better, tighter single player shooter campaigns I've had the privilege to enjoy. So many tools and mechanics and approaches to well-considered, varied setpieces. This one has Got It to a degree I wouldn't have suspected.
aggressively boring
Rogue Trooper is a 3rd person shooter from my childhood. My first ever playthrough came after I got my first computer system back in 2017/2018 after I had gotten sunk into CSGO and other easier-to-run games. I enioyed the campaign back then (being a teen it isn't that big a stretch to imagine I fell in love with the simplistic yet addictive combat) and find that replaying it fills me with just as much joy. The game is very much a product of tis time but that is a good thing. It's janky and counter-intuitive with a old school '2 kool 4 skool' kind of punch to it. If you enjoy a sassy and sarcastic dialog you'll enjoy the characters in this. On top of the dialog the women in this game are actually attractive and offer more than just a political mouthpiece for gaming studios. This is my current 3rd playthrough in total and I am enjoying the first few missions. Since my library is extensive it'll take a while to focus specifically on this but I intend to complete it wholly and with the utmost care. All in all this is a worthwhile experience and I would reccomend it if you are looking for non-modern games to sink hours into. Sure, it as quick as you make it but you'll find (I hope…
This game actually holds up remarkably well! The combat is really fun and interesting, and the "living" equipment mechanic is really unique and fun. Really enjoying my time with this one!
