✦ AI summary

Players praise Rolling Star's satisfying and addictive gameplay loop, highlighting the tight Metroidvania progression, engaging hard mode that continues to evolve character mechanics, and rewarding skill expression that feels great after practice. The main criticisms center on simple level design, limited combat variety that could benefit from additional sub-weapons, and raunchy humor that doesn't land for everyone, though the core gameplay is strong enough that most overlook these issues and enjoy replaying it.

ROLLING STAR by NUL2 STUDIO is a vibrant indie action-platformer that embraces the foundations of the Metroidvania genre while layering in humor, sci-fi spectacle, and a satisfying sense of mechanical growth. At first glance, it presents itself with charming pixel art and an energetic tone, but beneath that approachable surface lies a carefully structured adventure built around progression, customization, and tightly tuned combat. The game follows Laurie, a mechanically inclined young woman whose quiet orbital life is disrupted by a sudden alien assault. What begins as a scramble for survival quickly transforms into a larger journey across Colony 102, a sprawling space settlement hiding secrets powerful enough to alter the fate of humanity. The narrative strikes a compelling balance between lighthearted humor and high-stakes sci-fi drama. Laurie is not portrayed as a flawless hero, but rather as a capable yet relatable protagonist forced into extraordinary circumstances. Her dialogue is witty and grounded, often injecting levity into tense situations without undermining the seriousness of the threat. The worldbuilding unfolds gradually through exploration and character interaction…

The game is fun and worth its price on first playthrough. Newgame+ also known as hard mode is really impressive. Hard mode lets player continue with all unlocked skills and new enemies difficulty continues perfectly from normal mode's end game. During normal game player will unlock maybe half of the skills and even less of the items. This means that main character and gameplay keeps evolving in hard mode instead of just increasing stats. After multiple hours chaining boosts, staying air long periods of time and moving very fast becomes a skill that the player has learned. Dashing through areas after 10 hours of practice feels very satisfying.

I've been a fan of metroidvanias since I was a kid, and both this game and TOMOMI (the previous game by the same developer) are some of my favorites :3 If you like fast-paced, highly replayable action games with surprisingly technical gameplay and screen-filling bosses, alongside cute characters and lots of funny dialogue (though the humor can be a little raunchy at times), please give TOMOMI and Rolling Star a try! You won't regret it

ROLLING STAR is way more fun than it has any right to be. For all its bad jokes and simple level design, it understands what makes for satisfying Metroidvania progression better than a lot of other games. I can't remember the last time I beat a game and then began a new run purely out of enjoyment; the gameplay loop is just that addictive. And the additional difficulty settings offer a lot more than an increased challenge. I'm not the audience for the dirty old man humor (particularly in the case of the DLC), but I can't fault the gameplay at all. Edit: Great game but getting all achievements is a grind.

Fun short metroidvania, much more polished and better art compared to the first one. Combat is fun however I wish it was expanded upon maybe one more sub weapon. Unlike the first one the whole combat seems to revolve around it which is fun but could be better. The space exploration is also alright but could give an incentive for it like upgrading the mech or crafting different weapons but over all pretty fun
