The second expansion (2006) that requires owning Rome: Total War Gold Edition which has been discontinued from Steam. However, picking up Total War: ROME REMASTERED (2021) comes with all expansions. Another cool relic! 7/10
1 found this helpful
Great campaign. It eluded me when I spent a zillion hours in Rome: TW. It is not completely removed because Total War: ROME REMASTERED adds this to your library. Also, the remastered version is in Total War: ROME REMASTERED too, but not as a standalone. (Also, it is a bit old and doesn't like ALT+TAB too much)1 found this helpful
Meh.
7/10 Good game, solid campaign. The historical battles are where this shines as that is where you get the "Battles of Alexander". The grand campaign is fun and you feel like an absolute unit while plowing through Persia. It isn't very exciting though, and is fairly short. It is basically 1/3 the size of RTW.
Awesome
This campaign is brutal… and I absolutely loved every second of it. If you’ve played the base game or Barbarian Invasion, you might think you’re ready, you’re not. Alexander throws you straight into a high-pressure, time-limited conquest where every single turn matters. There’s no room for chilling, no slow empire-building, no safety net. You either keep pushing forward like a legend… or you fall behind and fail. And that’s exactly what makes it so special. Playing as Alexander feels completely different from any other Total War experience. You’re not just expanding an empire, you’re racing against history itself. The campaign perfectly captures the idea that you’re leading a once-in-a-lifetime military genius with unstoppable momentum. Every battle feels important, every loss hurts, and every victory feels earned. The difficulty is no joke: * Constant pressure from multiple fronts * Limited time to achieve massive objectives * Brutal enemy resistance * Zero tolerance for mistakes But instead of feeling unfair, it feels focused. The challenge forces you to play smarter, faster, and more aggressively than ever before. You actually start thinking like Alexander, …
