Roots Devour

A cosmic horror story was you are said horror. Game still need a lot of bug fix. From the interface that goes unresponsive to inconsistant checkpoint save state from run to run. The game as a lot to give. Game might have some rogue-lite element to it but it is by no mean that kind of game. The game wnats you to experiment, do some "mistake" and live the storie as an alien-mind entity where live of mortal creature means nothing to you.

Finished the main game with 1 ending so far. While the English translation are indeed problematic (or non-existent at one part at time of playing) by the end, I enjoyed the overall package. Only thing I was REALLY missing at the time was the mid-run save system, especially when trying to finish levels in one sitting, which was delivered after I finished the game. Personally, the gameplay manages to sell the idea of controlling a vine-like hive-mind and it was always satisfying watching the map by the end when the whole field was covered by it (i hope a playback feature could be implemented where the map shows you how you spread over the course of the level). Story is engaging, it has a really unique feeling to it regarding character interactions. All characters you interact with are really interesting, usually in a peculiar or disturbing way that makes sense for the wine to be curious about. Maybe the ending choices could have been indicated better, and owl's requests should have a written list showing you everything you need to do on levels, especially if you get her out-of-sequence, which is likely if you do not fully explore the 1st level the first time around. The theming and exploration is good, but the gameplay itself is simple to the point that I kept wondering if I was missing something. You'll enjoy this if you're looking to explore the world of being an evil plant horror that eats everyone thematically. You may not enjoy it if you're looking for interesting or challenging game mechanics.

Roots! Bloody roots!

Game's good, I honestly don't understand why it's Mixed? I like the concept and if the devs ever make a sequel, please consider making soldiers and such move like the rabid animals do - I want to infest a stronghold and see some of them freak out and run away, I want to see some of them pick up magical flame-throwers or something. I really like the "Infestation gameplay" of being something that crawls into a settlement and consume everything inside. If I was to ask for something else, it'd be more ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up gore-y stuff. I'm big into body horror and I think that people exploding and being eaten by the tree would be great. What if you needed to absorb knowledge from some bloke, you infest them and then guards would try to come in and try to save that person - basically, maybe I just want to play The Flood from Halo, or something weird like that and this game gives me the best experience of this "dream gameplay" yet. Honestly, up the gore and make the humans more reacting to your presence, give me and end-game state that happens when I ♥♥♥♥ up and people set me on fire - but even still? I loved this one! The graphic design direction is excellent, and the strategy mechanics clicked with me fast. It still feels rough around the edges in places, but the core idea is strong enough. I did get stuck on one puzzle for way too long, but that was entirely my fault for not reading properly.
