Samburger's oddballs

I thought Samburger's Oddballs was just another weird little game with a ridiculous name that I'd play for a few minutes and forget about. I was wrong. The graphics are simple. The gameplay is simple. The characters are strange. Very strange. But somewhere along the way, I started caring about these absolute oddballs. There's something about the world of Samburger's Oddballs that feels completely chaotic, yet somehow charming. The characters are weird, the situations are unpredictable, and half the time you're wondering what you're even looking at. And somehow, that's what makes it work. What I love most is that the game doesn't seem interested in being normal. It doesn't need to be. It gives you oddballs. It lets them be weird. And eventually, you realize you wouldn't want them any other way. I've played games with bigger worlds, better graphics, and much more serious characters. I don't remember most of them. Samburger's oddballs is a small collection of three different games that feels like someone putting together a little showcase of their favourite ideas. Instead of giving me one large game, it gives me Athena's higher wire, Anncceleration and Blastin blocks. They are all pretty simple, but each one has a different style of challenge. I actually like that because I can move between platforming, fast movement and puzzle shooting instead of doing the exact same thing for the whole experience. Athena's higher wire is probably the one I enjoyed the most. It is an arcade platformer where I have to collect stars while dealing with increasingly difficult levels, and there are different ways to play depending on what I want from it. Classic mode lets me work through the levels, while Level Select lets me focus on individual stages and Hailstorm mode puts me against constant cannon fire. The difficulty is quite high, but I like that the game is honest about what it wants from me. I have to learn the movement and pay attention instead of expecting everything to be easy.
