Scar of the Doll: A Psycho-Horror Story about the Mystery of an Older Sister

I played this Remake right after playing the original game, which I found very interesting and atmospheric. This Remake has not the unique feeling to it, but makes it up in terms of emotions. The characters feel much more lively (especially the main protagonist) and some story bits were added to clarify things that were left open for guessing in the original game. The epilogue was a precious addition where I realized how much these characters grew on me. I don't know if I would've been so invested had I only played the Remake, but I'm still inclined to rate it as a very cool Visual Novel for itself. Also, I had no translating issues whatsoever, and everything worked well on Steamdeck.

Aw I'm so sad that it ended so quickly, I absolutely loved the story and got attached to the characters lol. I was also really surprised by how mesmerizing the soundtrack and overall atmosphere are. :> I wish to find out more about the lore, it's so interesting.

It's been years since I played the original game, and I found it fascinating for what it was: an old school VN mystery, more "choose your own adventure" than most VNs I've come across. Maybe it felt a little clunky and tedious at times, but it was very immersive, like I was solving the mystery with the MC herself. So when I found out about the remake and bought it on sale, I hoped for a faithful but fresh experience. Maybe some more fleshed out story, or characters that were more developed, or at least some impressive new artwork. I... was disappointed. Honestly, it's probably my fault, for expecting too much, but maybe I'm just being nice. For what it's worth, the newer mechanics made it easier and less tedious to navigate. The new sprites and CG art were eye candy compared to the older art, which was rather jarring that they still included some of the old art anyway. But the story was virtually copy and paste, save for some moments. In the past, the plot would have been able to get away with its many contrivances. Not so in a supposed remake. Before I bought the game after I read the reviews, and the whole play through I could not understand the negative feedback I believe this to be a phenomenal story and I was never able to predict what would happen next!

Its a short but sweet VN that is indeed suspenseful but the horror aspect is quite weak. The audio is decent and fits in most of the scenarios. The character art is beautiful although I wish I could say the same for the background art. The background art for some locations are honestly haunting in a good way. For some other background its mundane, but then again maybe the aim for that specific location is for it to feel intentionally unimportant. Shiina my goat

A good VN. I felt the end was a little wanting after all that build up and a few loose ends in the way the story is told but not in a terrible way. A bit short perhaps for some but honestly, it was a good time and quite enjoyable.
