Selatria: Advent of the Dakk'rian Empire is a 20 hour adventure RPG with voiced dialogue. This is only part one, and the game, although satisfying up until the end, stops rather abruptly, without letting you know you can't go further. The story is good, and very well enhanced by the voiced audio. The premise is that two young magicians, after their school is attacked, must venture to stop the Dakk'rians - the previously conquered enemy of their people - from getting revenge and capturing the crystal essence of their magic. There are five characters that join your party, but only four at a given time. Each character has a unique set of skills to level up, and grinding does help, but is rarely necessary. One of the main characters can switch between three vastly different skillsets (strongly elemental, curative, or a light mix of both), but must do so outside of battle. Enemy troops usually take four or five rounds to kill, but it is usually not hard to keep your party alive when facing random enemies through the various maps. Boss battles are often difficult though, and the heavy dialogue leading up to them makes it frustrating when you have to start over a dozen times and listen…4 found this helpful

This game isn't flashy or innovative from a gameplay/aesthetic standpoint, but boy there sure was a lot of passion and charm thrown into this project. All of the writing, especially the humor, is pretty great (especially 95% of Luis' dialogue; I love that guy so much). The combat evolves and becomes more complex as the game goes on, which keeps things fresh and interesting. Selatria is a great example of how an RPG Maker game can be really fun and entertaining. That being said, it's worth noting that this project is currently incomplete. It makes up roughly half of the full intended length of the story. The full version is projected to be released at the end of 2023. I recommend either buying this version on sale or waiting for the full version to be released. In any case, I think this is a project worth keeping an eye on.1 found this helpful
This game was interesting till the action sequences...an whole dungeon full of wandering traps that a) reduce your health or b) reduce your AP points...and than you can't change into the healer job....meeehhh. Add that in most places you can't prevent to run into 1 or more of these traps. Meeehhh, I want to play an RPG not some action game.
Funny and charming, bright and colorful. You can tell Selatria has a lot of heart and soul poured into it by a group of peope that really know and love the RPG genre. I really enjoyed the original storyline and characters. The music was really fun to listen to. My playthrough left me very excited to play Part 2 when it comes out. As someone who had never really played retro games, this has gotten me into them a lot more. After finishing this, I was inspired to go back and finish Chrono Trigger and finally start Final Fantasy VI. I played most of Selatra Part 1 on an original Steam Deck, and finished the game on an Oled Deck. It ran really well for the most part, with the following exceptions: Issues: requires proton 5.13-6 for best results on steam deck. This fixes a bug where the last part of voice acted lines are cut off, and improves fps performance on the overworld. However even on 5.13-6 there are a few parts where the game just runs poorly, at around 10 fps. While a bit frustrating, the game remains playable. And thankfully these instances are pretty rare. There was one other main issue, but it only occurs one time: Coming out of the starting area you are subjected severa…
I love old school rpg games and games from RPGMaker. This one is a lot of fun.
