Sellsword Saga is one of hundreds of low effort retro asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with a video game construction kit... Like all construction kit "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. This is a badly made, cringey fanfiction anime club dropout construction kit flip, hacked together by filling out templates in RPG Developer Bakin (so no real, actual game development took place). As with all construction kit amateur jobs, there's no value for gamers as a real game here. The purpose of these construction kits is to make little toys to pass around with friends and teach some basic game design principles, and should never be used as a substitute for real, actual game development, especially not for profit as the developer here has done. The game features extremely low quality copy + pasted retro art, looks awful, and has even worse gameplay. On pricing and value for gamers, this isn't really free as you're expected to pay $5 USD to unlock content/DLC, the game should not be considered completely unlocked until you empty your wallet for the developer. game will break completely after some missions blocking ability to continue playing. Along with its attempting to crash every time it has to load.

5/10 RPGMaker RPG/tbs TLDR: there is an attempt here to make RPGMaker battles look better than usual. Yet the UI/controls are still terrible. And the randomly mixed styles of graphics create an unprofessional look. Neutral vote Good: + free + there is some combat system here with abilities, coming from the RPGMaker template + UI art is an improvement over the standard RPGMaker So-so: +/- music isn't that pleasant +/- imagery is fine by itself. Yet the mix of at least 4 styles in one game is bad. The Captain Silver and the male warrior character are in anime style with clean lines. The quartermaster is also anime yet with darker tones and thicker lines. In the battles, characters and enemies are made up from huge pixels. At same time, the background with lava is 3D, with high-detail textures and even with animated lava flows! It's like some students needed to put together a project for a grade and downloaded random free assets from different places Bad: - as usual with RPGMaker, we have to navigate inventories and character info pages supposedly using a controller, or with Z/X and arrow keys. In a proper RPG/TBS game, performing an attack would require 2 clicks, maybe even 1. He…

I've only just started playing, but I like it so far. Very good graphics, decent gameplay, and nice characters. There's a little buffering when entering a battle, but overall a neat game so far.
