Sharpe Investigations: Death on the Seine

This game will introduce you to many characters with crazy connections to the point that I didn't know who is who anymore! It started slow as Taryn Sharpe, the protagonist received a phone call from her boss to meet a celebrity chef who will open a new restaurant but of course, things turned upside down and he is dead. Now turning from a journalist to a detective with her friend who I don't know what was his name, they started to move from a place to another to connect the dots and find out who killed the man. Taryn Sharpe was tasked to interview a chief in Paris and ended up to investigate his murder, along with the photographer George Haske. In the end, well, she will live the adventure of her life! The plot, while interesting, is missing something: good writing. I was bored during all the game because of a love triangle, then, which is in reality more complex, without forgetting the great names that were chosen for the characters (come on, Chou as name?). By the way, why have two characters icons if you can't switch between them? I don't mind list of items on list of items as I'm used to this gameplay but after a moment, when the plot is boring or when you're passing from scene to scene without a lot of search, you're suffering from that. Some items aren't even easy to spot and the rare minigames are too easy. Also, the game is too short too. More or less one hour. For the price, it's too little. I wanted to give the game a chance but in the end, apart the correct graphics, the correct soundtrack, the rest is boring. I'm sorry for the thumb down but I didn't really enjoy the game.

It is short and feels cheap at some points, so I can only fully recommend it to HOG enthusiasts who should have quite some fun with it. [h1]Long version:[/h1] Despite its 2014 release date, Sharpe Investigations: Death on the Seine plays like a hidden object game from early 2010. Storytelling means paper cut-out pictures having some sort of a dialogue, and gameplay has nothing but hidden object scenes (repeated several times) with the occasional puzzle. In our case, the story is a realistic (non-supernatural) murder mystery, where our titular protagonist journalist duo investigates the death of a famous Parisian chef, rattling a few skeletons in the closet of his friends and family with their snooping Essentially, it plays like an episode of a budget crime drama series in HOG format, where the cheapness also means the game lasts maybe around 90 minutes with a handful of fair and balanced, old-school searching scenes that should suit anyone who likes classic hidden object gameplay.

Extremely short and oversimplified mess of an HOG. They introduce so many characters in such a short time and the game ends. I really disliked the fact that they made fun of a guy who died in the first few minutes in a kitchen freezer... a worse way could have been death in a chocolate fountain? WTF is that joke? and right after it they make you pick up red and green apples from around his body WTF??? also the idea of collecting tea and lemons from the trash to give to someone? WTF once again? pros. easy? even though the store is not listing it to have trading cards. it does have some. cons. very short. (almost one hour for the main story) no bonus story no voice acting only one repeating sound track the price overall i do not recommend this game at all. 1/10 for the effort. +1 for the cards 2/10

t's a pity it's so short, but it was a refreshing break from the other HoGs I play. The few puzzles were pretty simple so no need to skip anything. I really enjoyed the music. If the game happens to be in a bundle or on sale, I suggest you give it a go at least once.
