Shipwreck is a free top down adventure game where we play as a character stranded on an island and have to find a way to escape. The game is heavily inspired by older Zelda games, so we spend most of our time exploring the island, finding new equipment, fighting monsters and working our way through different dungeons. The combat is simple but works pretty well for a game this small. We start with a sword and can later get things like a shield and bow, giving us different ways to deal with enemies. The shield is especially useful because it can block projectiles and push enemies back, while the bow lets us attack things from a safer distance. The dungeons are probably the best part of the game. There are six of them, and each one has its own enemies, puzzles and obstacles. We have to find new equipment to get through certain areas, such as the hammer for breaking rocks and the lantern for exploring darker sections. It gives the adventure a nice feeling of gradually opening up. The exploration is also quite enjoyable because the island has plenty of things to find. We can collect health items, money and equipment while searching for the next dungeon. There are also secrets and ach…

Shipwreck is a retro-inspired action adventure game developed and published by Brushfire Games that captures the spirit of classic handheld exploration titles through simple but satisfying dungeon crawling, puzzle-solving, and top-down combat. Built around the concept of surviving on a mysterious island after a disastrous voyage, the game embraces an old-school design philosophy focused on exploration, discovery, and gradual progression rather than cinematic storytelling or large-scale open-world complexity. While the experience remains relatively short and mechanically straightforward, its charm, atmosphere, and nostalgic gameplay loop make it an enjoyable adventure for players who appreciate classic action-adventure design. The story begins with the protagonist stranded on a remote island after a shipwreck, forced to navigate unfamiliar environments while searching for a way to escape. The narrative itself remains intentionally minimalistic, allowing the island and its hidden dangers to become the primary focus of the experience. Rather than overwhelming players with extensive dialogue or complicated lore, the game encourages exploration and curiosity to drive progression forwar…

My score: 5/10 TL;DR: It's not "bad" per se, it's just boring—and it feels (and looks, and sounds…) like some kid's first RPG Maker learning game. NOTE: Despite being free, its achievements count toward your totals and the game can be displayed on your profile.
Overview
When I review free games, I'm usually more lenient when it comes to length, technical aspects, and presentation. But just because a game is free doesn’t mean it comes without a cost—your time is what you’re really paying. And Shipwreck does not respect your time. It’s a Zelda clone with a series of time-wasting problems that make it feel like the developer is really—really—inexperienced. I’ll give you two examples. 1 - The overworld is completely devoid of content: no secrets, no caves, no enemies. You’ll just stroll through an endless stream of empty maps. It honestly feels like the devs built a world map and then forgot to put anything in it. 2 - Like old-school Zelda, you only have two buttons for items, sword and shield included. Controllers nowadays have at least four face buttons, but here you’re stuck with two, constantly pausing to swap items. The greatest offender is the healing system.…
