It is empty and unbalanced. On the first island, you are almost killed by a pig; on 4. island, you have to kill 2 bison-like creatures with a stick, a spear, or a sling. Both like to damage them like a half-health bar per hit. And they have 20 healhbar. Oh, and if you die, you wake up in the middle of the ocean... So no, thank you.7 found this helpful
Past the like 3rd level phase you can't really advance the game. I was on beginner mode and it was supposed to save my progress but it wouldn't. Had a bug that happened at least 3 times where my boat would launch across the map and fling me in the air. Every time I would respawn I'd be in the air again and very far from my boat. Tried restarting the game to fix the issues and it didn't work. The weird purple bad guys just feel so unnecessary and kind of ruin the game. The fighting and weapons feel very underdeveloped and make it even harder to play the game. Really disappointing because I was loving the storyline being set up.1 found this helpful
I love the ship building and music, some of the enemies are a bit annoying but overall a great game.1 found this helpful
Windbound isn't a bad game. It's enjoyable. A survival/crafting game set in an achipelago? With boat building, customising, exploring and lots of sailing into the wind? Good atmosphere and decent controls? My verdict is negative but *you* may like the game a lot. I kinda like it myself. I'd like it a lot more but for a few annoyances. Survival is not very difficult but combat is. Lighthearted visuals mask surprisingly Souls-y battles. Difficulty is inconsistent. Parts of the game are easy enough but difficulty spikes are very unforgiving. Being an exploration game, handholding is almost non-existant and quest markers are few and far between. Piecing objectives together is left to the player. This is a pro. A con is that any death except drowning under specific circumstances will throw you back to the beginning of the chapter. Yes, death in a survival game has to have consequences elsewise we'd just throw ourselves at all obstacles with abandon. But losing hours of progress in an already slow game? Death should be the player's fault, not the game's but Windbound is inconsistent. Exploration, scenery, randomness of the islands, those are all good. Crafting recipes…
I am very disappointed in this game. Sooo many issues. I do like the art style, and the premise of the game seemed interesting. However, after 10 hours I am fed up. Basically, you turn on the light on 3 islands, go to the end island and progress to the next level. Then rinse and repeat. Each time you progress to the next level, the islands are tougher to reach, the corruption starts appearing, and the npc's are harder to fight, much harder. Respawn times for many npc's are too short meaning that you just fight a tough fight and by the time you gather a few resources, they have respawned. But resources such as sticks and logs and grass etc, never respawn so you have to go to another island. I am playing on the easiest mode but find it impossible to not die frequently. Sailing my boat became so annoying that I switched back to rowing as a way to travel the waters. There are many things to craft, but no real incentive or sense of progression to make you want to craft them. The story is vague and after completing 4 levels, I am bored with the repetition and will not be finishing it. I could go on and on with the games shortcomings. Definitely not fun to play, not a good story, and not …
This would be a on the edge yes for me, i played a lot and i genuinely enjoyed it, the combat is very jank and hard, but once you get the swing of it its "fine". When this game came out i was really looking forward to it, at the time was looking for something to fill the void raft left me with and this was it. Warning tho, This game is hard in places, the death system is quite punishing and if you dont like that this might not be for you It has some nice stuff to it as well, the music is very soothing when sailing and quite intense in situations, the world feels a bit empty but i found i liked that. The sailing is relatively basic with wind flowing one direction and you go into it. The boat building is really fun i enjoyed that part especially later game its a tentative okay from me if your willing to overlook the fact that you cant rebind controls and that the combat is jank. get it on sale and give a decent chance
