About Sliding Hero

Sliding Hero is a brainteasing, explorative puzzle game where you can only slide in a single direction until hitting an obstacle.

Will you outsmart the villa’s many trials and unmask the truth behind your imprisonment?

A PUZZLE METROIDVANIA OF MOVEMENT AND MYSTERY

Imprisoned in a sinister Venetian villa, use your wits to help Luca Sicomoro, a Serenissima military man, escape. Every move is a test of strategy, turning movement into a puzzle. Navigate a dark and intricate world inspired by 1700s Venice and Carnival’s masked mystique, where danger and deception lurk in every shadow.

MASTER THE SLIDE

Use environmental hazards, weapons, artefacts, and your momentum to dispatch enemies and avoid deadly traps. Each encounter is a skill test, where puzzle-solving and combat seamlessly intertwine in an easy-to-learn, hard-to-master movement system.

EXPLORE AN INTERCONNECTED WORLD

The villa is a maze of hidden passageways, locked doors, and secrets waiting to be uncovered. Unlock new tools that let you backtrack to previously unreachable areas, forge shortcuts, and interact with the eccentric and enigmatic characters who dwell within.

A DARK VENETIAN DREAM

Step into a beautifully hand-drawn pixel art world steeped in the elegance and unease of the Carnival of Venice. A haunting, original soundtrack inspired by Italian Baroque melodies enhances the atmosphere as you piece together a story of mystery, fate, and self-discovery.

I have played a LOT of great puzzle games. The bare bones of this one are excellent. I love the concept. The execution, however, is ABYSSMAL. The HUD is extremely clunky, and even commonly hides vital information, such as how much attack or shield an enemy has. The character glitches frequently, often standing still in the middle of two grid spaces. Many puzzles require you to "spend" your health to solve them, yet the only way to refill your health is to backtrack all the way to a save point. After enduring this for as long as it took to get NINE achievements, the game has now randomly reset a room that I cannot reset or complete again, locking me out of an entire section of the map in a clearly unintended way. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. Go play Emuurom, Gentoo Rescue, or Animal Well instead. This one is designed so poorly it becomes LITERALLY UNPLAYABLE. If they ever fix the horrible puzzle design, HUD, glitches, etc..., I would love to give this one another go. The puzzles are cool, but... why waste your time when at any moment you could literally get hard-locked out of progression for NO REASON other than poor design? I want my money back.

Don't be fooled by the Metroidvania tag, it is a puzzle game, which means it is repetitive and with no fast action. As for the game itself, it is an interesting concept, a mix between sokoban (box pushing puzzle) and a bit of RPG. Overall, It is a good indie game.

This game is firmly in the "overlooked gem" category. I played the demo and enjoyed it enough to wish list, but the overall game quality was well beyond what I expected from the demo. Most importantly, the puzzles are very satisfying. I found them to be a good level of difficulty, rarely stumping me for long, but also rarely trivial to solve. The progression of abilities continuously adds new layers without things becoming overly complex. Difficult puzzles gave me opportunities to chip away at them rather than trying to exhaustively search every option. The final puzzles, while not the most difficult, are an incredibly satisfying series of puzzles that each target a specific mechanic in isolation. It's a wonderful way to end. Only quibble is that the boss "fights" occasionally require speed as well as puzzling, but I enjoyed them, as well. The art is also great. It's a bit of an unusual mix of high resolution, detailed hand illustrations and well detailed but very low-fi pixel art. The combination works for the setting of his game, and both are done very well. I love all the details in the pixel art, such as worms crawling through the earth and leaves fluttering as you slide th…
