Street Heat

Street Heat is a console ported micro-racer game, basically a ripoff of the arcade classic Super Sprint (copyright Atari, 1986). Race against bots or co-op on low poly maps (the maps are stylised to try disguise the low poly console assets). There's very little to this game, it's shallow, uninspired, and 100% derivative. It offers nothing that games decades old don't already provide with better quality. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The game features lazy low-polygon "retro" assets, making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the 1990s. It's unclear why the developers weren't able to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets for the game, and also irrelevant... what matters is that this looks bad as a result of their decisions, a compromise PC gamers shouldn't have to put up with. [h1]Here's what you do:[/h1] Street Heat is a top down, single screen racing game primarily for multiplayer as there currently is no single player content other than four achievements (more on that below). The controls are a gas, brake, and left/right steering. [h1]What I like:[/h1] + The visuals are great with vibrant colors. + The music is amazing synth that sets a cool vibe for all the races. + The car physics feel right as you can easily slide around turns by controlling your speed. + The track designs are great at being distinctly different from each other. The solo city setting does not get tired due to the unique layouts of the tracks accompanied by distinct border colors. There are at least 11 courses, not including reverse variations (not sure on total, more on that in dislikes) + 1st place gets 5 points, 2nd 3 points, 3rd 2 points, 4th (last) 1 point, crashing gets you 0 points. I was on the lookout for something similar to good, old [i]GeneRally[/i] and this sort of fitted the bill, at least from the outside. Contrary to some I beg to differ - it is not an unfinished game. Yes, it left early access all of a sudden after a long period of no updates but calling it unfinished is like calling your down syndrome brother an incomplete human being. Street Heat is a bare bones game. It is a sum of absolute minimum, of what is needed to complete a game. There are no difficulty modes, you're not getting more than 4 cars and about 6 or 7 short tracks. There's only one tournament to play (one set of races, first to 20 points wins), so not a lot and for full asking price this is frankly a sad little racing joke. And whoever on earth decided to call this soundtrack "masterful" clearly had no clue whatsoever. This is synthwave at its very basic, with not a single track making a mark, and what's worse - it's hard to even notice it in-game. Very bland. It's a really fun game with friends and nothing to take too seriously. Fun drift mechanics and a simple game that is good for 2 - 3 game in a row before switching to something else.

[/quote] [h2]Unfinished, Buggy[/h2] Loaded the game, got struck by a train, and lost because you can't respawn. If you crash and burn, you're out of the race, which isn't particularly exciting. When the AI crashed into a wall at the start of the race, they all respawned on top of each other, stacking the revving and crashing sound effects, which was loud. Could not finish the race because they needed to finish it as well. Playing with other players might be better, but there isn't any content here really.
