About Super Marxist Twins

Ever wonder what it would look like if a Soviet state sponsored game developer designed a game to compete with classic side-scrollers while subverting western youth? No? Well we did. Introducing Super Marxist Twins. The evil Tsar Boarov and his army of capitalist pigs have stolen The Nation’s resources and left The People with nothing. Now it’s up to brothers Mikhail and Ludmil to collect the stolen resources and defeat Tsar Boarov once and for all. In communist paradise, money does not exist, so surrender your funds and buy Super Marxist Twins! Purchase the game for yourself! Purchase the game for your friends! Purchase the game for The Greater Good.

Features:

  • Classic side scroller platforming and action, on your own or with a friend!
  • Collect resources to power-up the twins! Steel rivets will power-up Mikhail and his hammer-attack, while collecting wheat grains will power-up Ludmil and his mighty sickle-attack
  • Battle an army of assorted enemies ranging from collaborator rats to heavily armed capitalist pigs.
  • Toil away in the Industrial Forge level editor and then share the fruits of your labor with comrades across the internet.

Stomp the Oppressors!

Fear not comrades for you will be well equipped to carry out the revolution! Even if you find yourself with no power-ups you will be able to handle most enemies by jumping on them.

Reclaim the Stolen Resources!

Rivets and Wheat Grains are the primary resources that the twins use to power up. Rivets symbolize the industrial might of The Nation while Wheat grains symbolize it’s agricultural productivity. Collect Rivets to power up Mikhail’s Hammer, or to recover him if lost. Collect Wheat Grains to power up Ludmil’s Sickle attack, or to recover him if lost. Collecting a combined total of 100 Rivets and/or Wheat Grains will earn you an extra life. Having both twins will allow you to switch between which one you are controlling while the other twin follows. If you get hit while possessing both twins, the one that you had selected at the time of the attack will be lost and you will take control of the remaining twin.
After a twin is active filling up the appropriate resource power meter again will enable their weapon.

Weaponize your Labor!

As Mikhail, collect Rivets to harness The Nation’s industrial might and throw powerful Hammers that bounce off of surfaces to kill enemies in hard-to-reach places.
As Ludmil, collect wheat grains to channel The Nation’s agricultural power and throw Sickles that travel long distances to destroy enemies from a safe distance.

Toast to the Revolution with a Victory Tonic!

The twins’ favorite drink! Collect this item to gain temporary invincibility and plow through your enemies!
There are more items to find and many more advanced maneuvers to master!

Toil in the Industrial Forge!

You can also try your hand at our included editor, and make some amazing creations to share with your comrades on the internet!

✦ AI summary

Players praise Super Marxist Twins for its charming retro aesthetic, solid platforming mechanics that reward both speedrunning and methodical play, and enjoyable dual-character co-op system with creative mechanics like damage boosting. However, some find the controls frustrating, citing overly slippery movement and fast fall speed that lead to cheap deaths, while others feel the visuals are bland and the game loses appeal quickly despite its thematic novelty.

A fun game with deceptively simple mechanics that reward you with further challenge the deeper in you get. Plus you get to hurl hammer and sickle against capitalism for the good of the people! You can't go wrong with that.

An amazing platformer with a funny theme and charm doesn't even begin to describe the experience of Super Marxist Twins. This game is nonstop fun, from start to finish and the worst feature is the lack of people making levels on it's very own level editor. With four different areas and 8 levels each, Super Marxist Twins carries itself on it's wonder gameplay feel, the loveable 16-bit propaganda artstyle and it's bouncy classic soviet music. This game is an entirely different experience for each person to play it as well! Whereas I'm the type to never stop moving (and the game even includes a constant sprint button), other players may find themselves going more methodical, thinking about the placements of their hammers and sickles. The two character mechanic leads to engaging co-op where you both work together to revive and power-up each other, or a creative single player experience where you constantly decide between how you want to engage your next situation. It's a great thing when the only negative thing I could say about the game is that I wished there were more levels, but at $13, it is well worth the price. If these types of platformers are even remotely your thing, or you f…

Competent platformer that calls back to the classics, down to even the slight slipperyness on your movement. Can tell a lot of it can be done the old school way of holding run and timing jump to maintain momentum without having to stop, but I was only able to do it in a few levels. The dual character mechanics are neat and don't end up being as much of a get out of jail free card as it may appear despite almost always having both characters up, while still managing to be useful to survive sticky situations occasionally. It also has a pretty unique use of damage boosting where you can use one of your characters going down to get an extra jump, reminding me of the use of a certain green dinosaur. Easy drop in/out co-op which can be fun with a buddy, but things can get a little hectic at times causing a slight loss of readability in what's going on. Only real gripe was that V-synch was hard to find, hidden within the framerate dropdown. Early access by a small team of indie devs, so every once awhile there might be some bugs but nothing crazy or out of expectation with the former in mind. All in all if you're a fan of platformers, especially classic ones, then this is an easy reco…

All of this game's best ideas are in its title. As a 2D platformer however, it plays terrible. Your characters' fall speed is much too fast and they slide around more they they should, resulting in many frustrating deaths. Visually, the game is very bland and uninteresting to look at, and after only 0.7 hours of playing with a friend, we both had enough and didn't want to play anymore.
