About Tale of Souls

Tale of Souls is a roguelike deckbuilder set in a dark fantasy world. Journey through the randomly generated Duskian Kingdom, where every decision shapes your fate. Build your deck with powerful cards, face unique challenges, and navigate a war-torn land filled with mystery and danger. Will you master your cursed powers and complete your mission before the curse consumes you?
You are a curse-born, a carrier of the Velvet Blood, a curse that grants unimaginable powers as it drains life away from the user. You are thrust into the war-torn lands of the Duskian Kingdom to carry out your employer's mysterious biddings. They promise the most precious reward: life itself, for they alone hold the antidote to your curse. Will you complete your missions before the Velvet Blood consumes you entirely?
In Tale of Souls, every action is driven by cards—be it movement, combat, or interactions with the locals. As you explore the Duskian lands, build your deck with increasingly powerful cards, uncovering new abilities, magical artifacts, spells, and allies. Your strategic options will expand or narrow based on how you construct your deck, every choice is critical to your success.
The Kingdom is in turmoil, with conflict and mystery lingering at every step. Tale of Souls features a randomly generated world and each run offers different sites, presenting varied strategic and moral choices. No two runs are the same, ensuring a unique experience every time you delve into the Duskian lands.
Torn by civil war, the kingdom is rife with enemies of all kinds. Some are rogue soldiers, others are knights with a strict code of honor, and many are seeking power, indifferent to morality. Each foe you encounter will test your resolve and strategy in different ways.
Tale of Souls features a dynamic day and night system that transforms the adventure, altering the game world in profound ways. Movement capabilities, arcane synergies, and enemy visibility shift with the changing light, ensuring that no two moments in your journey are ever the same.
In Tale of Souls, you shape your destiny through an amplitude of choices, determining whether you will be feared or respected among the populace. Your actions have consequences, and the settlements of the Kingdom of Dusk will respond accordingly, with each decision bringing its own benefits and drawbacks. Choose wisely...

This tale is shaped by your decisions, and whether or not you survive... is entirely in your hands.

✦ AI summary

Players praise this indie strategy game for its innovative board game mechanics reminiscent of Mage Knight, strong replayability, and passionate design that captures the charm of classic RPGs with tabletop essence. However, the game is widely noted as rough around the edges and unpolished, with incomplete content, missing card options, and features that feel like they need more development before the game is fully finished.

The game has a few rough edges but man does it scratch my itch for an old school RPG. The game has a lot of passion and it's very replayable! It has the charm of text-based adventures and while it might lack a bit of polish, it makes up in heart. The tabletop essence is kept and enhanced. A very nice surprise!

Well... there goes one afternoon... With a prevalent experience in FPS shooters I decided to change it up a bit and go for an RPG game, but something that's indie as generally indie studios love innovating to put themselves on the map. Although a bit rough, I appreciate the effort that an indie studio has released a full-feature game instead of some Early Access crap. Looking forward to more games/content from these guys.

Actually a really interesting game. Probably could be a bit more in the oven, but I think it's an excellent start for people that want to play some strategy/deck building games. Could be a sleeper?
