About Tandem: A Tale of Shadows
Tandem : A Tale of Shadows redefines the puzzle platformer genre with a unique top down and side-scroller gameplay and exceptional aesthetics. Help Emma and the teddy bear Fenton solve the mystery of the disappearance of the famous magician Thomas Kane.
Award-winning Tandem: A Tale of Shadows features five beautiful Victorian-inspired worlds inspired by Tim Burton, Jules Vernes, Conan Doyle. Players have to carefully alternate between Emma’s top-down view and Fenton’s horizontal side-scroller view if they hope to escape these chiaroscuro dimensions alive.

As the duo navigates past intelligent obstacles and menacing horrors, they uncover clues regarding Thomas’ disappearance, the strange Kane family, and their place in this universe. Will Emma and Fenton escape the murderous manor filled with twists and turns, or has their fate already been sealed?

What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Players praise Tandem's creative puzzle design, charming art style, and dual-character mechanics that genuinely enhance gameplay rather than complicate it, with many finding the game engaging and appropriately challenging. However, the game is consistently criticized for its disappointing and unsatisfying ending, which many feel undermines the experience, and some note that the narrative and linear structure lack depth compared to similar titles like Alice in Wonderland.

Ended up really liking this one, I started playing it as a filler game not knowing what else I wanted to play at the moment and I was impressed with how much I liked this puzzle game! I never found myself bored or frustrated, loved how at times it randomly reminded me of Alice Madness Returns and the ending??? wasn't expecting such a dark ending!! Oof!1 found this helpful
Great puzzles Cute voices All around creative
Fantastic game, awesome puzzles, hard but, not too hard. creepy and cute! but.....horrible ending, like super disappointed in the ending, It left me fuming!!
Good puzzle platformer with the main mechanic of shifting shadows to change platform layout. It follows the genre in having no combat and only light action/timing/platforming challenges. Victorian England setting tends towards disney/children's book rather than steampunk, and the narrative does too unfortunately (fails to be a more literary fairy tale like alice in wonderland). Tandem's superficial narrative and its linearity/lack of exploration are its biggest flaws.
One of the very few cases were a puzzle game that makes you control more than one character doesn't do that to just slow down the gameplay and make it seem more complicated than what it really is, and instead only uses this to expand the possibilities for other interesting puzzles. And also don't be discouraged by what looks to be about both stealth and strict timing in some sections, there's no stealth in the traditional sense, is all an enigma about distracting, blocking the view and/or even trapping those enemies so that one of the two can pass with ease. And the bosses were all interesting in their own ways. However I must say that the ending was really unsatisfying and felt like everything we did through the game was useless, and it wasn't an interesting kind of hopeless ending, just a meh one honestly, also because there was no boss in the final. Can't say for sure if a sequel is needed, but at least a DLC that doesn't make everything we've been through useless, even if it doesn't fix all that happened in the main game, should be there (at least to explain more deeply the secrets behind the mansion), like the Whistleblower one from Outlast
