The Epic of Inanna

Click the video above to see some of the gameplay, mechanic and hear my thoughts on the game. The Epic of Inanna is a visual novel with the occasional FMV thrown in. The voice acting is probably the best part of the game. The graphics, images and music are all pretty much average for what you'd expect for a visual novel. *Note* This is like watching a movie. There are no choices to make, no multiple endings to find and probably no replayablity. Overall, I recommend The Epic of Inanna because of these 3 factors: 1) It is free, 2) the voice acting and 3) the concept. This isn't really a "game" to speak of so charging for it would've been very difficult thing to do. There is a lot of text with a lot of challenging words to pronounce. So luckily they tortured the voice actors with doing it so you can just sit back and watch. Not too many visual novels seek to provoke feelings, deep thinking and inner exploration. So pick it up, press start and relax.

Decent story, considering it's a free game. It is divided into 4 stories across time, roughly 2 hours reading time each. Surprisingly, it's 100% voiced, including the narration lines. And that's a good thing, since that's all the sounds you'll hear. No music, no SFX.

Epic of Inanna is not really well made VN - pretty average. We get choice of many languages. Because... all of them were machine translated, surely. (Or translators never seen game on their eyes and did never get context, but that is not the case). We get about 4 or 5 different stories only connected by symbolisms - of 'women goddess', misogyny, women hatred, how men are bigots, etc. - ancient times with Inanna's temple protector - ancient times with some kings and their sons; mostly focused on Master (name hard to remember, I guess, Pranaj...) - scientist Kai and working for huge corporation - future times with Kalina, where new "utopian" world is created The graphics are simple. Characters are 3D renders and I do not think they even change facial expressions. Size is not well done, as some kids look as big as other characters. But I think they never appear together on 'scene'. The good side is that this VN is voice-acted. But... characters share the same voice actors, so it is sometimes really giving bad impression. What is wrong also, is too many ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ names (especially in ancient times). Game lacks memorable moments. However, Kai the scientist was the most interesting on…

Механика принятия решений, где каждый выбор влияет на сюжет, заставляет задуматься о последствиях. История, хоть и короткая, захватывает своей драмой и раскрывает образ сильной и противоречивой богини Инанны. Есть несколько концовок, что подстегивает к повторному прохождению, чтобы увидеть все возможные исходы. Хотелось бы, конечно, больше интерактивности и, возможно, визуальных элементов помимо текста. Но, несмотря на это, игра оставляет приятное послевкусие и побуждает к изучению шумерской мифологии. Рекомендую всем, кто любит нарративные игры и интересуется древними культурами.
