The Lost Desert aka Cube Game 9x successfully delivers a distinct, retro infused multiplayer experience by merging classic late 1990s third person shooter dynamics with open world exploration frameworks. Developed utilizing the legacy Blitz3D game engine, the title establishes an ultra accessible technical footprint designed to achieve extreme cross generational hardware compatibility, functioning on everything from Windows 95 to modern setups. From a design perspective, the core mechanical loop functions through open ended map exploration, systematic ammunition hunting, and rudimentary PvE or PvP engagements across 4 main maps and 3 specialized sub maps. By integrating distinct 3D platforming elements, automated day-and-night cycles, and localized combat presets including a dedicated battle royale mode the gameplay achieves instant nostalgic gratification. However, storefront analytics highlight noticeable structural friction inherent to its independent, two-person development cycle. Several sprawling environments remain largely unfinished or structurally barren, relying on basic placeholder topography and highly non standard, archaic layout control schemes. Despite these design b…

The Lost Desert aka Cube Game 9x is a surprisingly weird little online shooter, and I found its old school approach quite charming. The game is built using the Blitz3D engine and deliberately aims to run on extremely old computers while still working on modern systems. That immediately gives it the feeling of a forgotten multiplayer game from another era, and I enjoyed how much personality comes from that limitation. The shooting is simple and easy to understand. I liked the roughness of the combat because it makes everything feel more like an experimental retro project than a polished modern shooter. The environments are another interesting part. There are open areas with trees and rivers, along with smaller desert locations filled with ruins, rusted objects and rocky terrain. I enjoyed exploring them because the maps feel more like spaces built for old school experimentation than carefully scripted modern shooter arenas. That gives the w…
