The Panic Room. House of Secrets, developed and published by GameXP.com, is a hidden object adventure that expands the usual formula into something much larger and more persistent. What begins as a familiar “find the objects in a cluttered room” experience quickly evolves into a long-running mystery set inside a sprawling mansion filled with secrets, characters, and layered storylines. It positions itself less as a short puzzle game and more as an ongoing investigation, where progress unfolds gradually over time rather than in a single, contained playthrough. The premise is immediately engaging. You awaken trapped in an eerie mansion alongside other individuals, all seemingly caught in the same situation. Presiding over everything is a mysterious figure known as the Puppeteer, whose motives and influence shape the events of the story. From there, the narrative branches outward, introducing multiple characters, each with their own background and role in the unfolding mystery. The game leans heavily into detective-style storytelling, encouraging players to piece together clues and uncover hidden connections rather than simply follow a linear plot. A tentative thumbs up. This does the mobile slop thing of bombarding you with options, items, currencies, and of course the ever-present real-money payments... Along with the mandatory energy system, and increasingly oppressive blockades from the new content. All wrapped up in a massively confusing interface that makes it basically impossible to know how to progress. If you ignore that; you have a pretty fun core hidden objects game. There are quite a few different stages, a bunch of different games modes, and a few little twists. I made it to almost 10 hours before every quest I had relied on either rolling the dice for rooms to reliably be set to the game mode I need to get through them in, rolling the dice for specific pickups from random points around the house, or paying money the bypass those dice rolls... So, 10 hours of pretty decent hidden-objecting for free, that's alright. Just stop when you don't have any free, easy way to progress; that's my plan, uninstalling now. (And, hey, devs; the "night" mode massively slows down when the cursor is in the top-left corner, whatever method you're using to draw the cone of light is massively inefficient. Either fix that, or just …
