The Pirate Queen with Lucy Liu

I'm about 4 hours into my first playthrough, and enjoying what's proving to be a very immersive, pleasant and narrative-rich VR experience. Lucy Liu's narration is a real added bonus too. Often games set in the past have a very loose grasp of history, but that's not the case here - I can see that the team behind The Pirate Queen have put a lot of time and attention into accurately representing the period, from the locations (ship, shrine, etc) and items and objects in-game, as well as the story of Cheng Shih itself. Looking forward to sharing this with my wife, as she's a big history buff. Overall, The Pirate Queen is a nifty little game for anyone interested in a more chill type of VR experience that prioritises atmosphere and narrative over more traditional hand-to-hand combat. A very memorable experience!

The puzzles are fairly generic, but it's worth getting through them just to listen to Lucy Liu narrate pirate queen Cheng Shih's life for an hour or two.

The only good thing about this game is Lucy Liu's voice, which runs throughout the entire game. Plus, hearing Michelle Yeoh's cameo lines later on was a nice touch. Other than that, it wasn’t what I expected…

6/10 - it's just a prologue Top-notch voice over by Lucy Liu, story telling. but is missing the 'actual game play'. About total 2 hour long, divided into 12 chapters, yes, very short chapters, mostly you'll be looking for the 3 collectible on each 11 stage. very few puzzles, and the game is mostly rowing, climbing, walking planks avoiding swinging bags. in the end, it makes it as the whole thing was a 'prologue' to the real thing still in making. So, Great Voice over, and BG Music, but just good enough VR visuals no UI language settings, frequent graphic pop-ins, no adjustable graphics settings, so having a better graphic card won't matter, it works well on quest 3 /w VD Streamer, Overall, only worth it at discount, for soothing voice, excellent narration by Lucy Liu.

I'm now in the 'Storyteller' playthrough of the game after challenging myself with the 'Escape Room' mode the first time around. The Escape Room gives you less clues so was great for people like me who enjoy a little bit more of a challenge, and while the puzzles weren't incredibly difficult, the details in the cabin, on the deck of the ship and in the maze and shrine were really impressive and gorgeous to look at. In Storyteller mode I notice that I'm hearing more narration so I'm taking more time to look at all of the objects in detail, and trying and get all of the collectibles - there are a few I can't find, but I'll come back to them in future playthroughs. Overall the game offers a great little slice of history for anyone interested in the period, and I can tell a lot of thought and energy has gone into this game which is very unusual for a pirate game - refreshing to not just be whacking people with a sword. Lucy Liu is a very good narrator, by the way! I am excited to hear they are turning this into a film - it will make a fantastic franchise.

I'm really enjoying the game so far. The puzzles are interesting without being too challenging, which suits me as someone who likes exploring the very beautiful environment and picking up all of the historical objects, learning as I go, and so on. Lucy Liu's voice in my ear is great - her performance really adds to the overall atmosphere - and as someone interested in the period of history leading up to the Opium Wars, I'm glad to see that there's been so much research into the setting. It's also refreshing playing a pirate game that doesn't involve sword fighting and random violence - I like that I'm using my brain moreso than my brawn. Looking forward to seeing what's next for this studio!
