About The Siege and the Sandfox

Explore the palace and cavernous depths below an ancient desert city, under siege by its neighbouring kingdom. Master dynamic parkour abilities and use cunning and stealth to discover the true threat lurking within. Evade guards, defeat enemies, befriend potential new allies, improve your skills, and foil the evil plot before it's too late.
  • 2D Stealth Metroidvania with parkour exploration
  • Rich retro-style pixel art, hand animated frame-by-frame, with modern effect from Unreal Engine 4
  • Immersive and dynamic audio builds tension and highlights danger
  • An eclectic range of characters to discover and aid
  • Smooth controls and fluid animations to avoid enemies, evade capture and find other ways to deal with threats
Use stealth to sneak through the environments, incapacitating enemies or ghosting past as if you were never there. Run, jump, slide, shimmy, pole swing and more as you navigate the intricate game world, finding new items, equipment and skills, and unlocking previously-inaccessible locations. The Siege and the Sandfox is a stealth Metroidvania with one giant continuous world, linking the newer palace above, older prisons below, the ancient mausoleum, and an intricate network of caves woven amongst them all. Encounter unique enemies in each area - some more capable at pursuing sneaky Sandfoxes than others! Keep on your guard, as even an extinguished torch or door left open can trigger the suspicions of those out to get you. A shining city lies besieged in the heart of a vast desert. As the moon rises over the royal palace, a notorious assassin watches the king die to a traitor’s hand. Discovered, falsely accused and thrown into the labyrinthine dungeons below, they must escape to tell the tale else the city will fall. The Sandfox – known as the Kasha’i – is famed across the land as the legendary line of faithful protectors and servants to the crown. The current holder of this mantle has been left for dead at the base of ‘Traitor’s Fall’ - a deep pit leading to the depths of the underground prisons. Betrayed by the Queen in order to hide her regicide, you must now take on the role of the Sandfox and begin your journey back up to the palace. Save the kingdom from the Queen’s evil plot and reap revenge with the iconic weapon of the Kasha’i: the glass dagger. In your journey through the dark caves, dusty mausoleums, dangerous prisons, and crumbling ancient architecture, you will need to avoid the nastier inhabitants of this underground world and aid those friendlier to a new face. Your progression will lead to the discovery of the true threat to the kingdom above: a sand-borne evil emerging below. As dusk becomes night, and night becomes dawn, you will need to rely on the aid of new allies, make your way back into the palace, and end the treachery of the wicked Queen.

It's a good metroidvania based around stealth, with superb music and sound design. Nice, agile character and great pixel graphics. The only problems are: * Lots of backtracking. The map makes it seem like you can get through some paths but you actually can't and need to take the long way around. * Lots of bugs. Most are just to do with animation, visual glitches, scripting of AI (looping, invisible characters etc), but in one case I am pretty sure an elevator platform refused to come down to where I was (the buttons to call it remained depressed after it had risen), which prevented me from continuing the game.

I'm a fan of stealth games and I like Metroidvania games (even if they don't like me). This one has a lot going for it. Pros: - The music, narration, and graphics are really nice; they don't distract from the game (besides unclear pronoun reference by the narration at times). - I like the stealth and parkour. - The controls feel rather smooth (probably more so for better gamers. I'm using a wired Switch controller. I think a keyboard would be agravating. - The biomes are interesting to travel through. They aren't as explicitly unique as say Hollowknight, but there are dungeons, libraries, rooftops, slums (a tiny bit so far), catacombs, caverns, temples, palaces. There are some different foes in them and different types of platforming challenges too. - I really like the little colour-coded tick-marks on the map to remind you about the power-ups needed to get through different areas. Cons: My biggest cons are with the map presentation and a stylistic choice of PC pronouns. Map:As you explore you reveal the map. Standard fare there. However when you visit the fast travel points and are selecting where you want to fast travel to, the game reveals all tunnels all aro…

What an incredible game beset by some small bugs and too niche to sell well. If interested, here's my video review https://youtu.be/V-92HIANL8M I picked this up on sale on a whim and I'm glad I did. While a lot of the major bugs mentioned in other reviews are gone, there's definitely some flaws with this one that unfortunately don't seem to be fixed, but it in no way detracts from how unique and memorable the experience was. -Enemies can sometimes get stuck -Your jump height might be inconsistent every now and then -And the main quest where you need to locate evidence doesn't properly mark any of the quests, forcing me to find a community post where the dev explained where the items were, mentioned it's a bug.. yet hasn't fixed it? -The game also HATES multi-monitor setups and often takes extra effort to get it on my main monitor every time I start it up. Aside from that, this is a solid metroidvania combined with a great stealth game, making for an S-tier experience for me being a fan of both genres. The map is huge, you can explore pretty much everywhere after the tutorial (save for a few places locked behind progression), the stealth is tight with you emitting different sou…

I like this game, but the reality that this is a partial recommendation. The bugs and lack of polish did harm the experience alot. The later you reach in the game the higher the frequency of both occur. I hope the game gets updated to rectify these issues, but I am not that optimistic. Especially when I saw the last discount was at 80% after one year of release, also the lack of updates since last year doesn't fill me with the confidence that these issues will be solved anywhere in the future or even ever. Still I respect this game. It is unique and I enjoyed it in totality, even though the bugs and crashes were draining my enthusiasm by the end.

I dropped into a cave to avoid some guards and there appears to be no way out? just a checkpoint, a collectable, and a quest giver down here but I can't get back up. I could restart the game from the beginning but I wasn't really having fun. Very pretty art though.
