First of all, I received this game for free, so that’s already a +1 point for this review. The Unplace feels like a funnel that blends several different games into one experience. The result is something familiar, but not entirely refined. One thing worth mentioning is that the game doesn’t give you instructions at the start. You’re expected to figure things out on your own. Unfortunately, I learned this the hard way by dying a lot. While some players may enjoy this approach, for me it was a negative based on my personal experience. Performance-wise: chef’s kiss. The game runs smoothly, with no bugs, no stuttering, and solid overall performance. Story-wise: I honestly don’t understand it. I collected almost all the notes, but it still didn’t really click for me. Either the story is very abstract… or I’m just stupid. Probably a bit of both. The Unplace revolves around a "loop" where you (with some exceptions) revisit the same room again and again. Each time, the room has a randomized puzzle or anomaly to figure out that will bring you one step closer to understanding what's happening. The gameplay is easy to understand but you must be observant and use your brain. I want to point out that this game does have multiple endings! That, combined with the wide variety of puzzles and anomalies give this game a lot of replay value. You can replay over and over and still experience new puzzles and anomalies each time. That is more than I can say for most AAA titles, nowadays. Overall, a very fun game and well worth the $4.99 asking price!
The Unplace takes a simple idea of an anomaly game and gives it a Roblox Rooms spin. You keep going through these increasingly difficult rooms where you have to figure out a simple puzzle to advance. When the game combines some of the harder rooms together, man it can get tense. And that Russian nesting doll? You leave me alone! Nice game devs! Keep it comin!

Pretty fun little game. Anomalies are much more interactable compared to other games and you dont need to go back, which is a big plus. But anomalies become quite repeatable closer to the end and some combinations of the anomalies could be nerve-wrecking.
