About Theory of Fear

"Theory of Fear" is a visual novel combining “slice of life” and “dark fantasy” genres.
In the daytime, the main heroine is an ordinary girl, a first-year university student, who does an evening job in a café. At night, in her dreams, she visits another world with extraordinary guys, who start pursuing her.
At first, she makes little account of her dreams, thinking they’re no more than vivid fantasies, but the more she drowns into them, the clearer her realization of the Midworld’s reality becomes – it exists and those who live there aren’t going to leave her alone…

Additional description:
- The novel consists of 12 chapters.
- There are 6 characters in the game: one main heroine and 5 guys, with whom the girl can form relationships.
- 12 different endings, which depend on the player’s choice during the game.
- A system of bonuses, which can be exchanged for different pieces of additional content in the Secret Room (interesting stories from the game world, “secret” biographies of the characters and so on).

I thought long and hard about whether I would recommend this game. I liked: - the beautiful art - the things found in the secret room - the interesting backstory - the inclusion of myths/mystical creatures/... - the way it messed with my mind in a complete new way - that characters were allowed to be at least partly evil - the what-the-heck effect some events caused in my mind - the sexy time with certain characters - *spoiler* What Sadao did with the spider. No idea whether that was intentional, but I found it sweet how it helped her if you choose the right things *spoiler* I disliked: - would have liked more one-on-one loving with specific characters - more time for romance to develope between certain characters, some apppeared rushed - consistency in certain characters - being completely honest here: I would have liked more actual sex scenes, though there were some real nice scenes in there Overall: As you see above the positive aspects outweight the negative. There is definitely room for improvement in character consistency, character development and romance building, but and this is a big BUT: I think it is a unique experience over all. Maybe you will like it, maybe not, b…

This game definitely isn't for everyone because it has some pretty intense and potentially triggering content. Honestly, it could use more explicit trigger warnings since there's a lot of non-consensual stuff going on. If you're into manga or webtoons with yandere male characters aimed at adult women, you might like this game. On the upside, the voice acting is top-notch, the CGs are beautifully drawn, and the story is really interesting, even if it's a bit short. The heroine is pretty strong-willed, though some of her choices, especially in the latter half of the game, are a bit baffling. It's one of the very few adult games aimed at women, and I really hope the developers release the second part on Steam soon.

I liked it /but/ I was specifically warned that this was a dark game. I bought that game on it's premise, and I felt how it did satisfied me. The plot isn't very deep but I like the variety of love interests. However, I didn't like how the character reacted at many times. I'm not talking about the choices you made but more so what the character made NO MATTER what you chose. Unless you're ready to accept you may enter a bad ending quickly then you might find yourself frustrated and upset often. There is many times the consequences of action didn't entirely make sense. TL;DR - if you want a dark romance play this or you'll be disturbed and frustrated with it.

Not gonna lie this game is pretty good. it gives otome games a new meaning, usually the otome guys are always the good guys who end saving the girl. In this girl it's more realistic the guys are more sexual more cruel more distant. i defiantly recommend this game
