About Thing-in-Itself

Ted and Molly are together. Ted feels a connection to Molly wherever he looks.
But, how do they both really see the relationship? See each other?

“Thing-in-Itself” is a short interactive story about the struggles of understanding another human being. Using Immanuel Kant’s concept as a framework, it leads the player through stages of a relationship, exploring how perceptions may clash and surroundings can alter.

With an average walkthrough time of 15 minutes, “Thing-in-Itself” is not a game in a traditional sense – it doesn’t have win or lose conditions and doesn’t present challenge to the player.

With this project, Party for Introverts attempts to establish a connection between the mediums of game and short story, reworking the possibilities when narrative and interactivity merge.

Key Features:
 • Short, impactful interactive story that combines the motifs of German philosophy with a theme of modern relationship
 • 15-minute walkthrough accompanied by inspired voice acting
 • Emotional journey made relatable through casual interactions, dialogue choices and environmental changes
 • Original musical score created by Elena Alekseeva
Thing-in-Itself

Positives:
+ Different choices of dialogue + Very good voice acting + Quite nice cartoony graphics + Ok sounds and music + A tad philosophy + The storytelling + Achievements
Negatives:
- Every object is flat (2D) - The choices you make doesnt really matter - The in-game supported resolutions are maxed out at full-hd (see fix below) - Very short (over in 15-45 minutes)
Conclusion:
Well what can I say; females will always be females. As for the Thing-in-Itself, its quite good actually. The storytelling and the voice acting are great, but the game is extremely short. So unless you are in to get all achievements, its only 15 minutes long. Should you still play it though? Yeah, you probably should.
Total Score: 7/10
Fix for resolutions higher than full-hd: 1. Go to steam library and the games page 2. Right click and select properties 3. In general find the launch options and add this line: -screen-width XXXX -screen-height XXXX 4. Start the game Examples: QHD (1440p): -screen-width 2560 -screen-height 1440 4K (2160p): -screen-width 3840 -screen-height 2160
#tinygamereview

fall in love, get pissed, get closure, repeat. a brief slice-of-life whose tiny story is well-told.
🟨 GHOTI 🟨

🎮 🟨Gameplay: it's very up-front about not having much to it, and while it's a welcome departure from at least the layout of most visual novels out there, it's not without flaws (many of the object descriptions don't appear until you're too close to read them in your field of view, for example) 📖 🟨Narrative: short and thoughtful. Doesn't try to do more than it has to, and the differences your choices make - while just momentary - are well-done (a lesser game would've made a sex scene, for example). 🔊 🟩Audio: not much in the way of sound outside of the voices, but MAN is the audio crisp. 🖼️ 🟨Visuals: I'm not sure how I feel about all the flatness.

#memorycard
What stood out: 📌The voice audio quality is superb. Who it's for: 🎁Pseudo-philosophical pre-bed storytime. 🎁ez plat? I always love the little story games this dev puts out and this one is no exception!

A short walking sim that is likely relatable for many. The story has a good foundation, but doesn't develop much, making the message of this game unclear.

I really enjoyed this game, I think it definitely served it's purpose of being thought provoking, even as it did leave me with more questions than answers - though that's typical for a philosophical game :) In terms of reflecting the concept of a thing-in-itself, against the dynamic of a relationship, of understanding someone else? and the negotiation of the fact? if that interests you even just a little, i'd definitely recommend giving the game a whirl, a lovely short game that i think is worth the try :)
