tl;dr review: it is an FMV game, which most people hate. base price is outrageously expensive for a basic ♥♥♥♥♥ port. but 100% recommend due to game preservation and making it publicly available. If you want to buy, wait on sale. Was $10 this past summer sale. $18 bundled with the other Taito LD game Ninja Hayate. -----------------tl;dr stuff------------------ edit: I read this game was not released outside Japan, but I swear to God I did find one at an NA mall arcade. I remember Time Gal getting a release on Sega CD, but completely forgot Time Gal was originally an arcade game. Playing it again recently jogged memories from my youth that I absolutely did see and play it once and only once. It also knocked loose memories of Time Gal being such a miserable, humiliating, BS experience for 50 cents, that I had no urge to never play it ever again. I think this explains why I only saw it once and forgot all about it. Back then, Time Gal had a few things going against it: - Laser Disc games were expensive to acquire and maintain for operators - Laser Disc players were notoriously prone for failure - Arcade crash of 82 was a too much supply, too little demand issue lasting for a f…4 found this helpful
The game : fantastic animation, as expected. Play it elsewhere. This port : it's 2026 and people are still releasing games without VSYNC. Seriously ?4 found this helpful
*TIMEGAL HD-Remaster*, developed and published by TAITO CORP., is a revival of a very specific era in arcade history—one where the boundary between animation and gameplay was still being explored in bold, sometimes awkward ways. Rather than modernizing its design to align with current expectations, this remaster preserves the structure and spirit of the original 1985 LaserDisc title, presenting it with enhanced clarity while keeping its core identity intact. The result is a game that feels less like a contemporary release and more like an interactive exhibit, offering players a chance to experience a once-groundbreaking format with minimal reinterpretation. The premise revolves around a time-traveling agent named Reika, who pursues a criminal across multiple historical and futuristic settings to prevent disruptions to the timeline. This narrative serves primarily as a framework for the game’s episodic structure, allowing it to jump between drastically different environments without needing deep storytelling continuity. Each scenario feels like its own self-contained vignette, ranging from encounters with prehistoric creatures to high-tech confrontations in distant futures. While t…2 found this helpful
Love it. I'm a laserdisc game nut, so I might be slightly biased here. Having Japanese examples of the genre is brilliant. Plays really well (I'd strongly recommend cranking the difficulty and playing on 5 if you want to recreate the arcade frustration). But if you just want to marvel at the top-notch animation, there's no shame in playing with the onscreen prompts. Here's hoping the likes of Super Don Quixote and Cliffhanger might appear one day.1 found this helpful
Great game preserved in HD which is great, 100% recommend. I also fixed the screen tearing on my end, just put it to 1920 by 1080 window, full screen has no v-sync from my experience.1 found this helpful
This is exactly what I wanted out of a game like this. Stunning animation, silly fail animations, and QTEs out the ass. I had never expected to enjoy it as much as I did, but it's also a short stay. You can beat this game in a half hour if you're paying attention. If you're curious about an FMV QTE game from 1985, wait on a sale.1 found this helpful
