Trek: Travel Around the World

I received a key for this experience. While I love the idea of blending magical elements with real-world locations, I would not recommend this experience in its current form. I found the game play too restrictive--there were very few options for what you could do in each experience. Also, I would have preferred to be able to move/teleport around the areas more; instead there are only specific locations you can teleport to. I experienced some judder seemingly resulting from dropped frames (I have an i7-8700K CPU + 1080Ti GPU). As well, there is a spinning globe in the main area and while it seemed to work properly the first time, when I returned to the central area it was very glitchy--looked like there were at least two spinning globes superimposed on each other. I believe this could be good if the experience were significantly expanded in content; if you could interact with more objects and play freely more (i.e. rather than merely having limited objectives), and if you could move around environments more and see things from multiple perspectives. As it is I would not recommend it at any price, though it could be worth checking out as a free experience.

I experienced Trek : Travel Around the World on the Vive Pro. The next time someone asks for a calming VR experience, I'll know where to send them. This experience almost becomes a game as you are required to complete a simple puzzle or gesture for the reward of a new visual experience. But the puzzles are so simple they are not there so much as a game mechanic, as a way to access the next layer of the experience. The simplicity makes this an equally rewarding experience for children as it does for adults. On the Vive Pro the visuals are very well done - beautiful colours and nice textures for the most part. You could probably play this seated but standing will be easier for some of the puzzles. Right now, with 3 experiences, content is a little thin and short, however the user interface hints at potential for expanding with further experiences. If you are looking for a peaceful, virtual experience then the asking price at launch is probably about right, anyone else will want to wait for a sale before diving in to what is a beautiful but ultimately too short experience.

I don't really make reviews that often but I figured I would given I got this key for free. For what it is it's a nice technical demo, cool environments with some amount of interaction. Minor amounts of movement around them. Would have loved to have seen some ability to modify the graphics settings. I'm not sure I can justify the cost as it only took me 12 minutes to see the 3 environments and interact with them. If there was more environments and a level of plability I'd give it another go but as it stands it's a little short and lacking in polish.

Pretty interesting concept. No motion sickness. A magical VR experience.

Nice atmosphere, relaxing experience. Brutal on the GPU. I have a Vive Pro/2080ti and can't even run at 100% supersampling without significant frame drops. Only VR game I have played where GPU limited at 100% SS. Even the VRmark Blue Room runs better.

I was provided a free key for Trek: Travel Around the World and my experience should be considered through that lens. While short, Trek is an enjoyable experience that showcases a few nice ideas the developer had on translating the history and mythology of Finland into the immersive VR form factor. However, that being the essence of the game confuses me somewhat. The subtitle "Travel Around the World" makes me think I'll be going to several different places instead of simply 3 separate parts of Finland. One would hope the additional content promised in Fall will allow us to venture out into the outside world, at least once. However, this is exactly what is advertised, the trailer showing 100% of the content you'll experience, and the description of the game promising exactly 3 locations, so I can't complain too much. As much as I did enjoy this, 30 minutes of content for 9 dollars is a hard sell. But, if that duration were to double in the next few months, I'd recommend this much more easily.
