Atlas Obscura VR

It fails to meet the minimum standards expected by most PCVR enthusiasts. This app consists mostly of 360 photos that are stretched out, with very little, if any, stereoscopy effect. Not only that, but I also came across several bugs during my playtime. First, the controllers were backwards when using the Meta Quest 3 and link cable. Secondly, the intro video / photos / audio for each episode showed nothing, except the sub-titles. Lastly, some of the areas loading in were totally black. There are some cool aspects of this experience. The aerial views or miniature views were great. If the whole experience was like that, i would have happily given this experience a thumbs up. Those were great! Unfortunately, most of the experience is stretched out 360 photos that were out-dated back in 2017 PCVR. We have photogrammetry and light fields so we've experienced much better, near-realistic tourist destinations. BRINK Traveler is miles ahead of whatever this is. The audio was also unprofessional, from the poor, drab writing to the middling voice act…

I wanted to love visiting these areas, but the monoscopic video projected onto a sphere prevented immersion. The places look better and more 3d on the store-page's flythroughs and flyovers than in VR. I visited 4 of the 50-or-so non-featured sites to find each had 30 seconds of narrative while a dozen flat photos were shown to the user. Post-production value was excellent despite the deficiencies of the source material. IMO this should be re-released as a flat title to reach 50 times the audience, or a smartphone app to reach billions. Works on vive pro 2 with wand controllers.

Extremely misleading trailer. Not immersive at all (can't walk around, or go closer to things - things you expect in VR, and per the trailer), simply 360 panoramic photos that it plops you into the middle of - and you're not even properly on the floor or scaled. Really disappointed, requested refund immediately. For fairness sake: this is judgement after spending about 6 minutes exploring the Winchester House.

I enjoyed it quite short, the third chapter felt like it had the most content to it but the winchester house and the salt mine were pretty interesting too i think each needs just a small bit more tour guide-y stuff to feel complete although the damanhur hippies had a few varied locations and dialogues a couple of longer, only a couple of minutes, dialogues about the history of the location or interesting facts etc etc.. would help it feel a bit fuller and (i don't know if it's possible) but more free movement and zoom options would be nice. In the temple of damanhur i wanted to get a closer look at the small statues, but wasn't able to get down to that level or zoom in anyway like i said, kinda short but it's quite cheap, and i'm curious to see what other locations are added later. If you can't afford food this month, i'd skip it, otherwise it's interesting enough and nice to see more stuff like this released. I'll likely be jumping back into the temple of damanhur a couple more times, some of the artwork and locations were pretty cool looking
