Wander No More

Wander No More is a short, story-driven kinetic novel that places emotional storytelling above conventional gameplay. Rather than presenting choices, branching routes, or multiple endings, it follows a completely predetermined narrative centered on Kouichirou Nabatame, a renowned samurai attempting to abandon the violent existence that has defined him. This straightforward structure makes the experience closer to an illustrated novella than a traditional game, but it also allows the narrative to remain tightly focused on guilt, responsibility, family, and redemption. The game was developed by Zetsubou and published by Unwonted Studios and Zetsubou. Kouichirou's desire to escape his past establishes the story's central conflict. After deserting his kingdom, he hopes that putting enough distance between himself and his former life will allow him to become someone capable of protecting people rather than killing them. Unfortunately, his past refuses to remain behind. The Kodokushi, an elite group of samurai he once commanded, pursue him and eventually arrive at Hotsu Village. Their search results in the destruction of the settlement and the deaths of its inhabitants, leaving Kouichir…

There's nothing that I liked about this novel. The writing is pretty bad: the more you learn, the more questions about "how logical is that?" arise. When you first read about the MC's female friend, you don't question her suicide until you learn that she was also his wife. Then it becomes weird: "How did she not know what he was doing for work?" and "Why did he take this job if he DID discuss it with his wife and knew that she didn't approve? Did he want her to kill herself?" Then there's the decision to wait it out and hope they wouldn't get attacked instead of just leaving the village when they had the chance, especially since they were never planning to defend themselves. I didn't enjoy the quality of the artwork either. The characters have weird anatomy despite being regular humans. The voice acting is extremely meh, and Itou's character kind of sounded like Angel Dust XD

Wander No More is a short kinetic novel that focuses almost entirely on telling its story, so I went into it expecting something much closer to reading a short visual novel than actually playing a traditional game. I follow Kouichirou Nabatame, a former samurai who has abandoned his kingdom and wants to leave his violent past behind. After passing through Hotsu Village, he finds the place destroyed by the very people he used to command and discovers a young girl named Chiyo hiding among the ruins. From there, the story follows the relationship between them as he decides to take responsibility for her and try to give both of them a better life. The relationship between Kouichirou and Chiyo is easily the part I found most interesting. Kouichirou is not presented as some perfect hero who simply saves the day. He has done terrible things and knows that his past is following him, which makes his attempt to protect Chiyo feel more meaningful. Chiyo has also been through something awful, so their situation starts from a pretty dark place. I like watching their relationship develop because the story is really about whether someone who has spent years causing suffering can actually change …

Ok story, nothing too amazing, easy 100% achievements No choices, just story.

It's a decent free visual novel. It even has reasonably good voice acting. The ending is a bit... abrupt... but in a small scale project that's to be expected.
