I wake up. I think of this game. I go to work. I think of this game. I end work. I play this game. I savor every word and every moment like a fine sip of expensive wine. I go to bed (late). I think of this game. To say that this is the magnum opus of Otomes is an understatement. The storytelling is absolutely genius, woven together in a complex web of history, characters and emotions. Without spoiling anything, in some routes, you FEEL being watched by a character offscreen. You can almost smell the sakura blossoms and the Japan sea. I started with Saito, as that was what was recommended to me and he's consistently rated as everyone's favorite. That was a no from me. The whole Saito route I kept wanting to see more of Kazama and boy, was playing him next delivered. Every cent of that $9.99 I spent. And to think I've only played 2/12 routes is crazy. Do not even think about skipping this if you like otomes, especially heavier ones. My other two favorite are Nightshade and Olympia Soiree. Both are more polished and have more modern art but Hakuoki has soul and is much more... believable. The story spans from early1864 to 1869. That's almost 6 years of plot and character growth…2 found this helpful
after doing everything i could in this game, i can safely say im buying the second one :D! Saito and Heisuke are amazing, i love pretty much every route and how the stories are set up for the next game! i do wish there was more to the romance in this one but im sure there will be more in the next game2 found this helpful
you get white hair red eyes, you get white hair red eyes, everyone gets white hair red eyes
I love the story and I love the drama, action and the art but its not a romance. So A little dissapointed tbh.
i have only finished 6/12 routes because i didn't use any guide at first and wasted 7-8 hours rereading this to only get the normal routes which i don't recommend. aside from that, it's very story rich otome. i felt like romance is just a subplot here. overall, i enjoyed hachiro iba's route the most due to it's "fluffy" romance. if you really want some romance, i would recommend edo blossoms because while it's still story rich, there's more romance in it. otherwise, look where else.
I love this game but it is a bit frustrating when i use mouse and keyboard I click on the text box and then it randomly shows the save menu or the quick save menu, IDK if there's a way to turn that off or not. The chapters are quiet lengthy more so than I'm used to but I do love these little Demons so I'm waiting till I can pick a man. Beyond that small thing that could be something I over looked, This game is great and the art is beautiful, I'm thoroughly invested in the story.
