About We should talk.

In We should talk, you'll use the sentence spinner to piece together modular sentences in response to the in-game characters. Choose your words carefully to express yourself as you discuss ongoing problems about life and romance with Sam, your in-game partner, over text messages, while also chatting with friends and strangers at your favorite local bar.

The combination of words you choose impacts the conversations you have, how genuinely you can connect with your partner, and whether your relationship can survive the night. It's up to you how you respond—depending on how you communicate, you'll see one of many possible endings.
  • Personalized Choices:
Using the sentence spinner, make choices that connect with you. Countless options abound—be yourself, or role play someone you never thought you could be.
  • Unique Characters:
Your night at the bar is more interesting thanks to all the unique people you encounter. Find your healthy balance between chatting with your friends and keeping up with the texts from your partner at home.
  • Different Paths:
Your choices drastically affect the way folks respond to you, leading to one of many different paths in each conversation. Will you be accommodating, flirty, stand-offish, or somewhere in-between?
  • Multiple endings:
Play again and again to find all 9 possible endings. Conclusions aren't based on a specific path or route the way many traditional narrative games branch, but instead the endings are based on the tone your responses express throughout the game. What do your relationships look like at the end of the night?
  • Realistic conversations:
Experience the emotions that come with real conversations, whether it’s the the joy that comes with teasing a friend, the anxiety that comes with a heavy text message, or the frustration of navigating a touchy conversation with a creep. Express yourself as clearly as you can and hope that your conversational partner understands, though there's always a risk they might interpret your words differently than you intended.

It's an okay visual novel with a ton of choices that don't seem to have as much of an impact as the game wants you to think. If you're going for all the 9 endings, it's not exactly fun since you can't skip read text or fast forward in any way besides slightly increasing the text speed in the settings. The story itself is fine and each run takes about 15 minutes.

Got it in a bundle. While the graphics is kind of terrible, it's not really that important for what the game is trying to do, so I won't knock the game for that. What's worse is that it's a relationship/conversation game where a majority of the dialogue choices kind of makes you into a terrible and manipulative person that are a almost cartoonishly mean drunk at best and a abusive psychopath at worst. The text speed is also annoyingly slow, even on the fastest setting, but even with that you will get a ending in 15 minutes or so. The idea of a relationship game where you are building your replies by combining up to three options is kind of neat (even if a lot becomes complete nonsens) but it doesn't really work IMO and it's not substantial enough to make a impact in the narrative . Can appreciate experimental games to some level but as a tech demo, as a game this gets a big no.

i went into We Should Talk expecting a narrative where my choices would genuinely shape the story, but it really falls short of that. The dialogue system feels shallow and repetitive, and after a short time it becomes obvious that most choices lead to a very similar outcome.

I think 'We Should Talk' is a bit pricey for only being around roughly 30 minutes long but conceptually I like it's dialogue system, it gives me major Detective Grimoire vibes with the way you have to construct sentences to continue conversations similarly to how you have to make deductions and construct questions in that game. The actual game itself is alright, nothing to really write home about compared to other games although still enjoyable in it's own right but the dialogue system is what I'm the most interested in as it's really neat despite being pretty simple in design and I think it has tons of potential for interesting gameplay opportunities. Imagine having a dialogue system like this in a detective game like LA Noire where you have to not only ask the right question but be mindful of how you phrase them while interviewing people of interest otherwise they could clam up and stop talking to you restricting you from gaining more potentially useful information to help you in solving a big case. That'd be dope as hell and fix alot of problems with some detective games trying to hold the players' hand when doing detective work like cross-examining suspects/witnesses as you'd …

This game might as well be called 'Two Immature People with Issues Talking to Each Other' or 'Cheating Simulator/♥♥♥♥♥♥ Partner Simulator/Breakup Simulator.' The game mechanics are actually the only saving grace of this game. So far, it is pretty unique to me that you can customize your answers 'brick by brick'—that is genuinely cool. However, the graphics are awkward, the game is buggy, and the text speed is so slow that even when you adjust it, you cannot skip seen texts, which makes achievement hunting not worth it. A lot of the dialogue is just boring or cringey, and none of the characters within the story are interesting or relatable. I tried some different routes, and none of them were remotely interesting or memorable. The routes barely change with the texts, so it often feels like an illusion of choice. Just not worth it.
